Wow, it's ages since I've been in here! I like the look of this challenge even though I'm 6 months late :p Not sure I have the time or creativity to get back into writing a story, but I mebee will.

I might well be ready for a new challenge now after 8 years at Kilmarnock, 7 of them without winninga trophy and then suddenly we win the treble so it's mebee a good time to stop - the only way is down from here

If I can garner the enthusiasm I'll probably start with IBV Vestmannaeyja. Whether I would ever leave them though I don't know - I'd probably just try to go all the way to winning teh Champions League with them because I've almost never moved clubs in FM - I get too attached to the team I've built up!

I would perhaps have used this as another excuse to have a crack at managing Lofoten, but sadly they dropped out of the Norwegian Second Division and are no longer playable Neighbouring Vesteralen don't have quite the same appeal.

Whilst my story here never really got going I have actually continued doing this challenge (on and off) and have got quite a way into it. Each time I became frustrated I'd go away from FM totally, then I'd start a new game with another club - in Spain, then England, then Brazil, then France - but no... I always came back to my little Islands Challenge game.

So now that I am back into it in a big way. I plan to reopen my story and start writing again but probably in a less intensive 'season at a time' kind of style. If you (or anyone else) gets into this too then it'd be great.

For island 'nations', Singapore would be eligible. Indonesia and the Philippines consists of many islands, so I suppose they would be counted too.

Malaysia, Thailand and the rest of SE Asia are not islands.

Other suggesstions: New Zealand, Taiwan. Or just pick some nation from Oceania.

I did start an IBV game actually, but didn't get too far with it (and couldn't resist adding further managers at IA Akranes and Grindavik, wishing for the good old days of my amazing FM06 adventure in Iceland!). I loved managing in Iceland in FM06 though and liked what I saw of IBV in FM07 - I guess I just need to regather my general FM enthusiasm and, as you say, find a good balance for the story because sometimes I find it a drag if the game moves nice and fast, but my story writing is too involved so it just slows it all down. That is the reason for almost all my previous stories on here floundering!

Just out of interest, does anyone have a clear definition of what constitutes an "island nation"? Is it an island which contains only one nation (in which case Ireland (Republic or NI) doesn't count? Otherwise the definition is a bit sketchy!
