Hi everyone. I'm new member here. So far learned alot before even before i registered. you guys in here are amazing.
there's something i'd like to learn, maybe you guys could help me out.
How do i get the effect of an illuminating light? sort of a GLORIOUS/VICTORIOUS lighting effect. (like some of the scenes or screen shots of the characters from "Lord of the Rings III")
I'm hoping to achieve that effect for the photos that i'm editing.
Thank you in advance

Hi CAYO,
Welcome to the forum! I took the liberty of moving your post to the General Photoshop question because the Quick Tips and Techniques forum is for sharing tips and techniques rather than requesting them. I thought you would receive more answers here where how-to questions are expected.
About your Glorious/Victorious lighting. It there a web site you could point us toward which would have an example of the effect you wish to re create? I'm sure someone could help figure out how to do it. Are you after spotlighted beams of light illuminating a portion of the figure, say the face? Perhaps a glow which makes the subject radiant? It's hard to know for those of us who aren't familiar with LOR III.
Cheers!

| I believe that's what CAYO is looking for.

Hi Welles
Thanks for placing my post at the right spot. haven't gotten the hang of doing this.
I don't know any site which uses that effect, but what you metioned is some what close to what i can picture. It's like a combination of a soft beam/light ray effect with a radiant glow the pic, sort of a diffused lighiting/glow.
I'll try to put a screen shot of the movie i mentioned. But if anybody has an idea of what i'm talking about, i would love to hear them. %}
big THANKS!!!

You could also post a link to perhaps a movie promotional site which might have an image of the type you are trying to figure out.
I just had a thought. Look at the example pictures of AutoFX's plugin, Mystical Lighting, and see if any of the examples approach your concept. We can then figure out how to recreate the effect without buying the plugin. http://www.autofx.com/mystical_light..._lighting.html | |

The sight you gave is great!
there i found a sample of the effect i mentioned.
The photos were done by a different program, would this be achievable in photoshop?

Well, one way to start would be to duplicate the background layer of your opened portrait. Blur the duplicated layer until the features are indistinct using Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur... Change the blend mode of the duplicate layer to Screen. If you want to limit the effect to specific areas you could add a Layer Mask to the duplicate layer and, with that active, paint black with a very soft brush on the image and the effect will be masked out.
If you wanted to add specific additional highlights, create a new transparent layer, paint with a soft brush with white where you want highlights Blur the layer and change the blend mode to Screen. Remember you can soften the highlights by lowering the opacity of the brushes when you paint.
See if that gives you a start.

Another solution, close to the one described by welles, would be to select the highlights (magic wand on a white area, contiguous unchecked), and then jump (CTRL+J) it to a new layer, then perform the blur, then change the blending mode to screen, etc..
