Having played this game for sometime, and FM07 last year, I can not help but feel that team talks are far far more important than what they should be.
There are people around who have managed to find assistant mangers who handle their team talks and keep everyone happy, but i am yet to find one. And before anyone points out, I have tried motivation rating of 20 guys. What they seem to do is blurt out "for the fans", no matter what the match situation or opponent is.
I conducted a tiny experiment. I was playing as Juventus against inter. I lost 3-0. I quit without saving and then reloaded and played the game with the same tactic, but a different team talk. Lo, I won 4-1.
This is where I am coming from. A good team talk might turn a 1-0 loss to a 1-1 draw or even a 2-1 win. That too not everytime, good team talks will result in 1-0 losses as well, and I believe most of the time, if you don't have the players or the tactics.
A good team talk should not change a 3-0 loss to a 4-1 win.
Opinions welcome, and if you don't agree no need to be rude, as this is how a lot of people are here.
Ah, of course I am doing it myself. That is not the point. I think no matter who does it, the assistant manager or me, it seems to me more important to the outcome of matches than it should be. I have won some smashing victories as well, but somewhere they ring a bit hollow since deep inside I have a feeling it is because of my team talks.
And yes team talks are important as you say, that is because the manager can give individual instructions like marking someone, playing a little deep or upfront, not giving someone space etc. And thats how matches are influenced.
Matches are not influenced because Arsene Wenger and Fergusson says "You can win tonight" or "I am disappointed"
Teamtalks are important, and have a long-reaching effect, because you are conversing with your entire team. IRL matches have changed beyond recognition thanks to a half-time rollocking. The old adage "a game of two halves" can be attributed to a good/bad team talk. Personally, i think the game has it about right, albeit with slightly fewer options than i would like.
i disagree and ill tell you why - there are brilliant influential team talks that will be remebered for inspiring teams or individuals, but there are just as many inspiring talks that havnt had any effect.
What we have in FM is get the right one and you win and wrong one and it dosnt matter who you have on the pitch, what i propose is a system that influences players instead of deciding the result outright.
More options would be most welcome, but a sytem where you can give strikers 10% more chance at finishing because you tell them to keep their cool or soemthing like that!

Have to completely disagree here. Yelling at a team over half time might get them a little more motivated, but the good managers do something with tactics. This is the bigger difference. Morale and team talks play too big a part in the game in my opinion. Teams score and make mistakes at random times due to luck, skill, and tactics. Not because they suddenly become world beaters because a manger told them to "play better."
only problem is when you check feedback of team talks...more often than not it says nothing specific noted yet your team just played out of their skins so something must have happened at half time.
