i find that match ratings needs to be tuned alot.
players that make perfect games get 6 in ratings.

78/78 passes and 4 shots on goal and 3 runs with ball for an dmc is not bad and deserve more then a 6 for sure

I have found that if a player has a lot of shots and does not score he gets a lower rating in FM08, especially when a midfield player.

Sometimes I'll be watching a game and seeing a player play brilliantly, in my opinion. Constantly beating his man, getting good crosses in, winning challenges only to be given a 6 by the match engine. Then on the other hand, I'll see a striker missing an incredible amount of easy chances to be given a 7 and sometimes an 8 (although that often requires a goal). Not really sure on how these are calculated.

Very true. In one game, Gerrard had a 5 rating. His passing was great, with only one or two going astray, and he made several interceptions. He had, however had several shots on goal, and got punished for. This definetley needs some tuning

A goal, it seems, will give the scorer an extra point in his rating. 2 team goals give everyone an extra point. That said, how many times have we seen it irl where the striker who did nothing except score gets Man Of The Match?

Well, sometimes i have seen a substute have 0s all over but still get a rating of 7. Maybe team performance does have an effect on individual rating

Is this a bug?

I'm getting really annoyed seeing my players average 6.88. I find it extremely diffcult to keep track of form and who I should and shoudn't play. Granted, these ratings don't actually mean anything, they could be graded with letters of the alphabet, but if they serve no purpose other than to judge your players form, why change it and confuse people who've played this game since day dot?

I really hope this is a bug or is something that is going to be re-addressed, bring back the old system so we can follow the form of players with more ease. And no, my team is not ****. (although it did take me a while to realise this, after seeing a squad average rating in the sixes but still winning the league)
