Hi Chris,
One of my freebie favorites is Peel off White and the two associated with it from Berg Design. http://www.bergdesign.com/plugins//
Polaroid makes a nice free Dust and Scratch Removal Utility for Mac and Windows... http://www.polaroid.com/service/soft...r/poladsr.html
If you wanted to purchase a bundle of software (4 PS plugin packages and Bryce 5) at a very good price, look at the Creative Extreme bundle currently being offered by AutoFX. http://www.autofx.com/creative_xtrem...ollection.html
My final suggestion for this evening is to look at Flaming Pear plugins. They are modestly priced and very good. SuperBlade Pro really is the best texture and surface generator available. I personally like Flood, LunaCell, SolarCell, Flexify, and Glitterato. On the sales page there are a couple of bundles which are even better buys. http://www.flamingpear.com/products.html
About Eye Candy. It's OK but I'm not wild about it. Eye Candy 5 is pretty good but it's going to be expensive if you pay for all three sets of filters when they are all released. I'd suggest waiting on them for a while and Eye Candy 4000 is sure to be offered in a cheap bundle soon as it has been so offered at least once in the last six months.
Cheers!

Normally, aren't all the .8bf files cross-platform? Isn't it mostly the compression program used to reduce their weight on the net that differenciates mac (.hqx) from PC (.zip)?

Looking for Free MAc filters and more Post #5 | | Guest | Looking for Free MAc filters and more Sir sPECtre,
I don't believe so. If I'm not mistaken .8bf files were Filter Factory files? If so, there were different versions for Mac and Windows users. There was a way to translate from one platform to another but Mac OS X has changed everything. Even old Mac Filter Factory filters no longer work with OS X. Again there's a however... a Filter Factory equivalent called Filter Foundry has been created and released for Mac and Windows and older files can be updated for the newer OS and versions of Photoshop but the files are still platform specific. http://www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/#filterfoundry

Pierre is enough, colleague
.8bf are "normal" Ps plug-ins while filter factory are .ffl, as far as I know...

(I always liked the Sir sPECtre 'nom de fora')
Ah, now I remember. I actually looked into this issue some years ago. Window's plugins always have the .8bf file suffix. They are not compatible with Macs even though the some of the plugin delvelopers for Mac will also use the same suffix. Those tend to be the developers who first developed their software for Windows and then ported it to Mac. Some use .8li. Most don't have any suffix whatever.
I believe the reason that plugins are platform specific is that they extend their activity beyond the 'boundaries' of the Photoshop application and have to interact with the operating system directly.

Ah! I wish I had a MAC to make some tests
I trust you, indeed, some of the plug-ins are makeing calls to the mxx or the altivec engines, and thus are platform specific...

If you have any freeware or demo filters in mind to test, I'd be glad to give them a try. I've a broadband connection so downloading is no obstacle and I'm constantly experimenting with software. When I first used Windows I had the registry tied up in knots within three months from trying software. Even 'experts' could do nothing to untie the Gordian knot of the mess I'd made. That's one of my primary preferences for the Mac OS. I can tinker with the system endlessly and have always been able to recover from mistakes.
