Default Something interesting regarding FM08>Full Patch install...

I've noticed something interesting since I performed a complete Windows and FM08 reinstallation last night.

Previously, I had FM08>Beta 1>Beta 2>Full Patch installed and experienced specific bugs in every new save that I started with it, they were repetitive and easily re-enacted. Little things such as when you clicked on "Influence" in the "View" menu in the tactics screen, a player tactic's screen would pop up instead. This would happen EVERY TIME. Also, the GUI seemed rather unresponsive, you'd have to click things twice sometimes before the game registered. Bearing in mind that this installation of FM08 was all I had installed on my laptop and I never accessed the internet on it, so there was nothing else slowing it down (i.e. spyware) and I regularly performed Disk Cleanup and Defrag.

The, last night, I did a complete reinstallation of Windows using an Alienware Backup and Recovery utility, and then installed FM08>Full Patch. Immediately, I've noticed a difference. The "Influence" bug I previously mentioned is non-existent. And the GUI is so smooth and responsive now.

It is in my opinion after these experiences that perhaps there may be some unknown conflict when installing the full patch over the Betas, because I seemed to get many of the same bugs, or variations of them, from Beta to Full patch and it felt like nothing had changed. I have no idea why this is happening, I only know that from these early experiences, things are looking promising.

I'm going to continue playing and see if any of the other bugs I experienced have disappeared or are still prevalent.

Interesting observation there, keep us informed.
Might explain why some people seem to be experiencing major problems (in their opinion) whilst others aren't.

Been playing a match on "full" to be able to check out match engine behaviour properly and unfortunately the "defenders not closing down" bug still remains (an issue which apparently was fixed for the full patch Match Engine v655).

However, I have noticed it only seems to be with players set to Man Mark, and since I set my defenders to Zonal, they seem to be performing as normal (which shouldn't really have to be the case since it says in the manual that it's easier for Lower League players to play a man marking game, and I'm playing as Eastbourne Borough). Also, I set my right winger to man mark so that he could help the right full back to defend against crosses, and he was doing the same thing - he'd be closing the ball down and then suddenly stop.

So that issue seems to be a man marking issue.

Apart from that, things seem fine - the game seems that little bit quicker in processing than the last installation too. With all 117 leagues loaded, minimum detail, it processed a week in around 7 minutes, 10 minutes being my previous benchmark.

Might explain some remarkably poor finishing i've seen on my game, world class strikers missing open goals, and missing them really badly, for example.

Is it possible to just remove the beta patches and then re-install the full patch?

Or do you have to un-install FM to get rid of the beta patches?

How did the strikers perform regarding One on Ones and did you still find your midfielders shoot from anywhere??

If that were the case then I'd be a bit baffled as to why. I mean, the full patch overwrites the previous files, which is basically the same as deleting them before installing the patch.

Are you saying that you recommend uninstalling fm 08 and the beta patches, and then install 08 with just the latest patch? I was thinking of starting a new game but maybe i would be better off re-installing everything again first. Keep us up to date with any other anomalies please.

Interesting.

But can this be ok. Uninstalling FM, reinstalling FM, installing full patch and playing the saved game from the first installment?

FM is slow at responding really slow. You click it and it takes 2 seconds to respond and process.
