Ok, it’s probably ‘cause I’m not from UK but I never understood why there’s no UK competition and an UK national team.
On a national level it would become the biggest competition on Earth .
Personally, I would like to see a Glasgow Rangers and a Celtic Glasgow in the UK Premier League. Are there decent Wales & Northern Ireland teams?
On a country level, the bigger the country, the bigger is your potential and thus odds will raise in reaching European and World Championships.
For my country Belgium, I think we’ll merge competition with Holland in 10 years, we are both too small to compete with our neighbours. Voices were already roaring in Belgium about this issue 10 years ago and now in Holland they are starting to understand that it could work…
And it’s not that rare present times, look at the Scandinavian Royal League or the Baltic League and others…
no way, the only player i think england could get would be giggs, but hes retired now. i would of said craig gordan but after his 7 goal drubbing the other week, lol. and i wouldnt like celtic or rangers in the epl. they would have to start in the championship. cardiff are in the championship i think, there crap
There was acutally talk of Rangers and Celtic being put in Premiership I think but this was at least 5 years ago. The reason there isn't a UK team is that there are enough good non-english players so many less known/skillful welsh/irish/scottish etc. players wouldn't have a national side to play in which is what many players aspire to.
Sorry for the doulbe post but i remembered something. Great Britain doesn't enter a team into the Olympic games because it wouldn't be representative of the UK as it would be mostly English.
The UK does not put a team in the Olympics as FIFA have stated in the past that is they do then the FAs of the 4 nations will lose their seats on the FIFA voting council.
At the moment Scotland, England, Walesand N Ireland's FAs all have seats/votes. They will not give these up in favour of a British team.
There has been calls for years for Rangers and Celtic to move to the English League but there is no precident for this and in theory they would have to start at the bottom and work thier way up. They wuold not be willing to forgo the money raised from gates etc for the few years it took to come up through the lower leagues. Plus, if they did make it to the Premiership who says they would get the European places, thereby loosing even more money.
As inventors of the game, the UK are awarded a special status in FIFA, meaning the 4 nations of the UK each get to field a separate national side. They also have their own FA's and national leagues.
FIFA and UEFA will not permit countries to pool their national leagues and still participate in European club competitions. There was a suggestion for an Atlantic League a while back, with Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands, and Scotland (I think), but that was shot down by UEFA.
That is not to say that the associations in those countries can't organise competitions between their teams. In Ireland, the Setanta Cup is played between teams of Northern Ireland and the Republic. You have already mentioned the Royal League and the Baltic League. And there is now talk of a Celtic Cup competition between the national sides of Scotland, Wales, Ireland, and Northern Ireland.
The point is, none of those competitions would count towards European qualification (CL, UEFA Cup), which is still only achieved through success in national leagues. The aim is primarily to attract more TV revenue.

The reason the UK, or Great Britain & Northern Ireland (more accurate for the Olympic games), do not enter a team in the Olympic games is to do with the individual football federations. We have the English FA, Welsh FA, Scottish FA etc.
To allow us to enter a team in the Olympics, all of those separate federations would have to merge. Ain't going to happen until hell freezes over.
