Rep Power: 0 | Quote: Daily Record The Prso Show Rangers 5 Celtic 2
Veteran striker Dado Prso yesterday scored a sensational hat-trick in a sensational Old Firm game. Ranger won the game 5-2 at Ibrox yesterday, a signal of intent that they are in the title race. Celtic manager Paul McDaid said his defence was poor and he was extremely disappointed with the result. Rangers manager Walter Smith was delighted with his side’s performance. Ibrox was packed for yesterday’s game and the fans were not left disappointed. The game started with boos for ex-Rangers players Steven Pressley and Kenny Miller as well as Scott McDonald and ended with ironic cheers as though they were still playing for the club and Scott McDonald had only scored those two goals just yesterday.
It was Celtic who took the lead in the third minute when Karl Svennson tripped Kenny Miller in the box and were awarded a penalty. Japanese international Nakamura put the ball past Allan McGregor. Dado Prso scored the equaliser fifteen minutes later. Both teams were equal in the midfield, Celtic lost the game with bad finishing and poor defending. Kenny Miller put Celtic back in front after thirty-nine minutes and silenced the home crowd, they were livened up five minutes later when Burke equalised. Rangers went ahead six minutes after the break with a fluke wondergoal by defender Ifil. After that Celtic couldn’t find a way back. Prso finished the job off with a goal in the seventy-fifth minute and another after eighty-two minutes.
Dado could not hide his happiness at his hat-trick, “It was one of my best moments here at Rangers. We were very good today and I hope we showed everyone that we are title contenders.” His manager Walter Smith agreed with his striker, “It’s always special to beat your rivals but this was something different. People have been having a go at us but we are here to win this league and prove the doubters wrong.” Celtic manager remained philosophical about the result, “We need to improve it was gutting losing like that. We have our game against Benfica during the week and it is a must win game for morale.” Rangers: McGregor, Ifil, Smith, Svennson(Novo, 69), Webster, Burke, Murray, Ferguson, Thomson(N’Diaye, 75), Prso, Boyd(Hemdani, 69).
Subs Not Used: Klos, Hutton, Sebo, Papac.
Goals: Prso 19,75,82, Burke 45, Ifil 51.
Booked: Svennson Celtic: Boruc, Wilson, O’Dea, Pressley, McManus, Joseph, Nakamura, Robson, Jarosik, McDonald(Vennegoor of Hesselink, 67), Miller.
Subs Not Used: Brown, Hofland, Sno, Anderson, Perrier-Doumbe, Finnbogason.

Another manager has felt the wrath of Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov. Valdas Ivanauskas has become the third manager to be sacked by Romanov following George Burley and Graham Rix out of the door.
The statement from the club said that poor results and a poor league position was the reason for Ivanauskas's departure from the Tyncastle club. Hearts who last year came second in the SPL and won the Scottish Cup are currently 9th in the league.
The favourite to become Romanov's fifth manager is his first one, John Robertson. Roberston resigned shortly after Romanov took control of the club and is currently managing First Division club Livingston. Other candidates for the job are Jim Jefferies, Craig Brown and Gary McAllister.

Qatari businessman Ibrahim Al-Khater last night flew into Glasgow for takeover talks with Celtic chairman Brian Quinn. Quinn has made it known that he is listening to offers for the club and Al-Khater has been the first to show an interest.
It is rumoured that Al-Khater that will give Paul McDaid £62million in transfer fees if his bid is successful. However the current board of directors have placed a ban on any transfer activity while the talks are ongoing.
Celtic declined to comment on the matter.

A historic moment in Celtic's history was completed today when Qatari businessman Ibrahim Al-Khater completed his move to buy the club. After a week of talks the deal was confirmed at a press conferance at noon today before Celtic's clash with St Mirren this afternoon. Al-Khater has high ambitions for the club and is not afraid to spend to achieve his aims.
"I am happy that I have finally got the deal over with. Celtic are a club known all over the world and I am really excited to be here. This place is something special. I want Celtic to dominate Scotland and dominate Europe. Money will be their to help the manager but we have not decided how much yet."
Al-Khater has appointed fellow countrymen Mohammed Mohammed as Managing Director, Mohammed Al-Shammari as Director of Football and Abdulla Darwish as a Director. Scotsman Matt Black has also been appointed Director.
It is thought Ibrahim Al-Khater's first move as Chairman is to pay off the money for the clubs new training complex in Lennoxtown due to open in the new year. It is thought Al-Khater paid £60million for the takeover.
Ex Chief Executive Peter Lawell said, "I feel I have done my best during my time at the club and I now leave the club in safe hands."

"Mr McDaid is just through there gentleman." I'd never heard Margaret speak so politely in my four months at the club. I stood up and done up my team and then they walked in.
"Mr Al-Khater, Mr Al-Shammari," As I shook both their hands, "Nice to meet you at last."
"It's Mohammed."
"Yes and I am Ibrahim, relax, sit down."
I didn't like being told to sit down in my own office.
"I'm Paul, Paul McDaid."
"I remember you, do you not remember speaking to me after your friendly against Al-Rayyan Sports Club?"
I tried to think for one of the few times in my life I couldn't remember what to say.
"Six summers ago, you scored the free-kick, you remember Mohammed?"
"Yes, thirty yards out, right foot, top left hand corner, absoloutley brilliant. You had just almost got your leg snapped of by one of the defenders."
"Ah yeh, we won three zero?"
"That's the one."
We all looked at each other and smiled. the Ibrahim spoke.
"Thank you for being so patient in the takeover period, we know it must have been frustrating for you. You are a good manager though you know what you are doing."
"Thanks."
"So, we have put in a lot of money into the new training ground and youth academy. I want it done as soon as possible so I hired extra builders. We will officially move there 1st February. Now, the board have lifted the ban on transfers and we have decided that you you will get £22.5million for transfers."
Wow! Never did I think a Celtic manager would get that amount. What was I meant to do with that?
"Is that good with you?"
"That's brilliant."
"Okay well, we will see you soon."
"Bye"

I'm a 'Gers man but I quite like this story. My favourite aspect to it so far has been the realism added, small yet detailed touches like naming the Scotland Today sports broadcaster and referencing Andy Walker's Daily Record column.
I tried a 'Gers story which never got going due to my data becoming corrupted and I was intending to try a similar thing. Glad to see someone incorporate it into their story.

Japanese midfield star Shunsuke Nakamura has put pen to paper to sign a new contract keeping at the club for three more years. Naka signed last season from Italian club Reggina.
Manager Paul McDaid is pleased to have Shunsuke's future committed to the club, "Naka is a special player and has been excellent for us this season. It's great that he has signed the new contract. He is a joy to work with, he always gives one hundred percent in games and at training. Something you need if you are to survive at a big club like Celtic."
"It is good to get the contract signed," said Nakamura. "I enjoy playing here in Glasgow. All the fans love this club and I love it too. People are always very friendly when I meet them. The only problem in Scotland is it is so wet and cold but I don't really mind that. I have been out for a month with a hip injury and I have been seeing a specialist. I spoke to him last week and he says it should only be a month before I am back in training."

Peter Martin - Lets's go to Jim who is in Coatbridge. Hi Jim.
Jim - Good evening, could I ask a question to all three of you?
Peter Martin - Sure on you go Jim.
Jim - It's a question on Celtic's new chairman Mr Al-Khater. As you'll know Celtic are currently building a new training facility in Lennoxtown and Al-Khater promissed money to be invested so it would be ready for the first of February. I'm hearing some quite disturbing rumours that it has been cancelled. Do you know anything about this and if it is true what is your opinion on it? I'm also worried about the new chairman, he calls himself a businessman but I don't actually know what he does and I'm worried Celtic have got themselves a Romanov.
Peter Martin - Well I know that Al-Khater's main income is the obvious oil industry in the middle-east and I think he owns serveral major companies over their such as mobile-phones, television, construction and supermarkets. So that is his background. I was up doing a report from Lennoxtown yesterday and there was work going on and the place looked almost finished. I don't know if Graham or Daryl know anymore on the matter.
Graham Speirs - Well I was up today, the youth team were meant to be taking a tour of the place and I was joining them and there was nothing. No people, no eqiupment and I got a phone-call from the Director of Football to say the tour was cancelled. The place was deserted and I think if it has been cancelled that is worrying and dissapointing.
Daryl King - If it is true it will be very dissapointing for Celtic fans because a lot of the funds came from a share issue last year. And what they have got just now ain't impressive and new facilities were badly needed.
Peter Martin - I hope that has answered your question Jim. After the break we have Tom from Bishopbriggs on the line and an exclusive interview with Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood. | |

Celtic boss Paul McDaid said he was delighted to knck his rivals out of the League Cup. Celtic took Rangers to extra time in an end to end game at Ibrox. Jiri Jarosik opening the scoring in the sixth minute with Nacho Novo equalising in the thirty-fifth. The game stayed level until five minutes from the end of extra time when substitute Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink scored to put Celtic through into the next round.
"It is a great feeling when you knock Rangers out of a tournament. We gave one hundred per cent up until the last minute. Our league form has been quite dissapointing but hopefully we can go all the way and win this trophy."
Man of the match Aiden McGeady was also happy to beat Rangers, "I had a good performance but more importantly so did the rest of the team. It's the first time the manager has won a derby so we were all happy for him."
Rangers boss Walter Smith remained philosophical about the defeat, "Obviously it's dissapointing to lose to Celtic and to get knocked out the cup. But we're doing well in the league, we're still in Europe and there's the Scottish Cup starting in the new year so it's not all doom and gloom. You can't win everything."
Celtic will play Motherwell in the semi-final at Hampden on the 30th January.
