The mechanics discussed work for me; it feels like they acheive the "By Popular Acclaim" standard which I think we'd like to maintain.

I'd like to reiterate my feeling on how important this is - I'm very pleased that we're moving forward with it. I think, done right, this can provide a showcase for our best writing, an acknowledgment for those whose personality and work have made the forum what it is, a sense of history for newcomers like myself, and a touchstone for the community to visit.

So this year, at least 10 of the 20 voters would have to cast a vote, and you'd need 8 votes to qualify. Or 7 votes if you've already won the relevant story/writer awards.

Basically you only need eight people voting yes. I mean, if eight people nominate a story into the HoF, would it be disqualified just because two people didn't vote no? Seems a tad silly. I would suggest therefore that a story needs a minimum of 8 votes to get into HoF proportionally to the number of registered voters. We can announce the exact number after registration closes for the year because at that point we will know the score.

Just to say that I understand the idea of voting on 'SOTY' threads only, but I'm sure everyone knows there are great ones out there that never got that accolade.

Having said that I appreciare that we don't want this turning into a situation where people keep nominating every half-decent tale in sight so I'll understand if my 'nomination' is overlooked, I just think it would be a real shame.

It's still on the forum (just) down on page 6 (here). I think the plan is that, for the awards this time around just to vote on previous SotY/WotY winners, but afterwards I believe it'll be open for nominations and stories such as LP's can be put forward to a vote at next year's awards.

Aye as this is the re-inuagural year we decided to limit it to former Soty winners which by definition have done something noteworthy.

I do agree though there are many, many stories which have not won soty that are in their own right excellent stories.

I have a few ideas on the HoF procedure, but would have to formalise then properly. It's also linked to an update of the archives, which will most likely happen in a different way than envisaged until now. Am in contact with Stu about it, will get back on that around awards time.
