You will be surprised to learn that once again the annual FMS Awards Ceremony will soon be upon us. Yes, it really is almost a year since the last time this great occasion occurred.
The cut off date for this years awards is the 2nd of October - which means that by that date a story must have reached the agreed criteria to be consider for an award. If it does not, do not worry, it can still be considered for next year!
The preliminary date set for this years awards ceremony, is Sunday 28th October, probably around 7 or 8pm. Venue to be announced.
The criteria for winning an award are,
Firstly, a story may not have won that award in the past.
However, a story which has won a minor award, is still eligible for Story of the Year, as long as it has been updated within the current Awards year.
A story must have reached at least the second page - or be a short story as accepted by the adjudicating panel - in order to be accepted as award worthy. This means of course, that a story does not have to be complete to win an award, but you should take this into account when considering your choice. Clearly, the more incomplete a story is, the less chance it should have of winning unless it is of exceptional quality.
This year, we will once again be requiring people to register in order to be able to vote, and details of that will be posted in due course.
The current envisaged timetable for the awards proceedures is as follows:
7th September

October 2nd
Publish list of 1st round candidates - Voting begins
October 15th
First voting closes at midnight

Awards ceremony
The FMS Awards are the pivotal point of the FMS year, but they can only be a success if YOU make them so. No matter whether you are just a casual reader, or an avid writer, YOU are still part of FMS and you need to show that by voting and attending the awards.
mark - there will be a registration thread established shortly once PM and the other organisers have finished the rather challenging task of identifying all of the qualifying stories.
This year we have decided to take the registration process a step further. In order for a writer to win, particularly FMSer of the Year, Writer of the Year etc, they MUST register and cast their votes. Indeed, after much discussion we have decided to apply this criteria to all award catergories.
The reason for this is simple - If a person cannot be bothered to vote in the awards, why should they win one.
This is a trial for this year and we'll see how it goes.

I would like to say to all the regular readers of the FMS forum that the ceremony is always an enjoyable spectacle (despite time issues usually keeping me from attending in person, it is a riot reading the commentary afterwards )
The Awards is also a lot of unseen, behind-the-scenes effort of several dedicated FMSers- so don't believe it is the easiest thing to accomplish. Enjoy and appreciate all the effort that goes into the celebration of our writers on here
