Enrique was not overly looking forward to attempting to guide the Haiti team to World Cup glory, but he had little other choice. His first test would come on September 1st 2007 in Cuba, a friendly match that would no be easy by any means. Unless you counted bribery. Or murder.
The Haiti plans in Scotland had gone better then expected, as the coaches placed around the various clubs had done their jobs well and attracted a fair amount of Haitian talent to those sacred shores. That in turn made the job of Sylvio Cator that little bit easier and he had assembled a full squad of Haitian's at Aberdeen, although it was way too early yet to tell how that was going.
On the youth front, two players had been seen fit to come the ranks at clubs in Scotland. Right sided defender come midfielder Kalilou Florentin as Celtic and attacking midfielder Malam Cuvier at Ayr United. Both sixteen years old, it was Cuvier had made the break through to first team football already. But then again, he was in the Second Division with a pish poor team. Florentin was probably the better player, but both provided genuine hope for the future.
The squad was there to be picked though, and both teenagers found themselves included in a team that was a mix of youth, experience and total crap. Well it is Haiti after all. Haiti Squad 2007-2008 Goalkeepers Geteau Ferdinand (36) Baa-Aberdeen Decent keeper if a little old, but then there is not a seeming lot of choice. Played last season for Motherwell before being snapped up for £100,000 by his current club. Fenelon Gabart (26) Baa-Aberdeen The future of Haitian goalkeeping. Which is a little sad really. Defence Jean Jacques Pierre (26) [i]free agent[/b] Currently without a club, having been released by Nantes, but he should be able to pick up something soon. And if not there is always the sheepshaggers. Jonathan Roux (20) Baa-Aberdeen Quarter of a million pound signing for the sheep shaggers from Caen, he's not a great player but then who is in Haiti, eh? Josue Mayard (27) Baa-Aberdeen Has been around a bit, having played for Montreal, Nashville, Fc Dallas, Kansas City and Notodden in Norway before his arrival at Pittodrie. Tidy, but unspectacular player. David Saincius (32) Baa-Aberdeen Coming to the twilight of his career, had been on the books at Dundee United but never played for them before moving slightly further north. Luckenson Chery (25) Baa-Aberdeen Was unfortunate enough to be brought to Paisley, and it just shows how unlucky a person a get having moved to Aberdeen - the city of ****. Jamil Jean Jacques (31) Baa-Aberdeen Arrived in Aberdeen from Miami and is therefore no doubt suffering from culture shock. It will be a few years before he recovers. Jean Muller Altidor (30) Dundee United Might actually be used on the left wing, but is more of a full back. Frantz Gilles (29) St Mirren Another poor bastard conned into moving to Paisley. Still at least it isn't Greenock. Midfield Romain Genevois (19) Baa-Aberdeen Fairly decent - by Haitian standards - young midfielder. Can actually kick a ball, which always helps. Kalilou Florentin (16) Celtic Too young to really say if this lad has any promise - but it's not as if he will have a lot of competition for a place in the national side. Highly unlikely to make it with Celtic though. Renel Montpremier (28) Baa-Aberdeen Another poor bastard whose first taste of life in Scotland was Paisley, and out of the frying pan into the fire really. Gabriel Michel (33) Baa-Aberdeen Aging wide player who isn't really very good at all. Wait a minute, that implies some of these players are good. Adbert Joseph (29) Baa-Aberdeen Played for Motherwell last season, didn't do too badly but never going to be player of the year. Alexandre Boucicaut (25) Baa-Aberdeen Don't speak too soon, but he could just about be a half decent right winger. In another life. Bridece Azor (19) [i]Sampdoria[/b] Possibly the most exciting current prospect in Haitian football, but don't let that foot you he's a fairly average kid. Ricardo Pierre Loius (22) Baa-Aberdeen Another player who has been in Scotland for a year now, having spent last season at Dundee United and was far from impressive. Jean Philippe Peguero Baa-Aberdeen Signed from Brondby where he actually seemed to do quite well last season, so here's hoping he's good. Peter Germain (25) Kilmarnock Drew the short straw by signing for Killie, but then again it could be worse. It could be Aberdeen. Forwards Charles Alerte (25) Baa-Aberdeen Fairly useless forward if all is said and done. Which thankfully it isn't. Malam Cuvier (16) Ayr United Unfortunate to end up in Ayr, but might have the talent to get a move away to somewhere better. Largs possibly. Donald Beauplan (18) Baa-Aberdeen His name reads good plan, but moving to Aberdeen was certainly not one. Herby Fortunat (25) Baa-Aberdeen More like unfortunate. Not only for being named after a silly car, but also for moving to Aberdeen. Jean Dimmy Jeoboam (20) Paris FC Nobody reads this bit anyway so whats the point. The guys Pele.

Rep Power: 0 | Cuba v Haiti Juan Abrantes, Havana
Saturday 1st September 2007 - Friendly Haiti v Benin Sylvio Cator, Port-Au-Prince
Wednesday 5th September 2007
It was only a couple of friendlies when all is said and done, but it was a chance for Enrique to assess his squad, to find out if there was any chance any of these players could be good. He knew he was kidding himself, but then England do that all the time.
The match in Havana though was to get off to a dissapointing start as Celestino Manuel Canas sent Cuba ahead on just seven minutes. Eight minutes later though, Herby Fortunat levelled things and then had to go off injured at half time. With half an hour to go, the two sixteen year olds, Cuvier and Florentin, were sent on for their debuts and didn't do too badly really and in the end the match ended at one all. A decent enough result.
Benin were an unknown quantity, but just about 15,000 people turned up to see the match. Jamil Jean Jacques was the man this time with goals on 4 and 39 minutes and Herby - whose injury was not that bad after all - made it 3-0 before halftime. Another run out for the kids in the second half, no more goals but a decent work out.
The FA were pleased and Enrique's career had gotten off to an unbeaten start. He wouldn't be shot just yet.

Rep Power: 0 | Haiti v Nepal Sylvio Cator, Port-Au-Prince
Saturday 6th October 2007
Very few people knew that Nepal even had a football team. Nevertheless the football starved people of Haiti turned up in their droves for this match. Well ok, around fifteen thousand of them anyway. And they were mainly here because they knew this was a rare chance to see Haiti pummel someone. Nepal have no household names. In fact most of them have no house.
Herby Fortunat was enjoying playing football against people who actually made him look good, and scored his 3rd goal in three internationals after just nine minutes. This was a hell of a long way for Nepal to come just to lose, but four minutes later Jimmy-Dimmy doubled the Haiti lead. It would be the height of bad manners though for the hosts not to give some favours to the guests and so four minutes from the break Nepal were given a goal.
Jimmy-Dimmy though made sure that the two goal margin was intact for the second half and just after the break Jamil Jean Jacques added a fourth. The Haiti support were lapping this up and wished they could move to Asia where quite clearly their team would be gods. A minute from time, second half substitute Kalilou Florentin bagged a fifth and in the end a really nice win.
Meanwhile, back in Scotland, the Sheepshaggers had not been doing all that great as their all Haitian side sat 7th in the SPL after eight matches and had been humiliated in the UEFA Cup 1st round on a 6-1 aggregate against Valencia. Still, these dumbfuks were used to humiliation and another such made little difference. The Haitian experiment was in its early stages and would not be abandoned just yet.
In fact it wouldn't be abandoned at all....

Rep Power: 0 | Haiti v Costa Rica Sylvio Cator, Port-Au-Prince
Saturday 10th November 2007 - Friendly Grenada v Hait National Cricket Stadium, St George's
Wednesday 14th November 2007 - Friendly
The final two matches of Enrique's first half year in charge of the national side would be a relatively tough test at home to Costa Rica and then a trip to Grenada that would surely be a whole lot easier. There was also the prospect of Haitian U-20 side, under the guidance of Lens coach Geuro Tuero, travelling with the full side to Grenada for a match there, a squad composed of all home based Haitian youths.
The two great overseas prospects though continued their careers with any great making of headlines. Kalilou Florentin was getting the odd match for the Celtic youth side but his chances of ever making at the top level with the club seemed as remote as ever. Malam Cuvier on the other hand had made seven, very unconvincing, first team starts for Ayr United. Although both players still looked to have a national team future, it was clear they would probably end up plying their trade at a very low club level.
Drafted into the squad, in light of an injury to Adbert Joseph, was nineteen year old Felix Landing who played his club football for Haitian side AS Capoise. Landing could be a reasonable player but unless he gets a move to a bigger nation we might never really know.
Herby Fortunat - whose Aberdeen career was hardly flourishing given that he had failed to make a start for the sheepshaggers yet - was nevertheless impressing for his country and it was his goal on 20 minutes that gave Haiti a half time lead against the Costa Rican's. The second half go off to an incredible start as Costa Rica's Gomez touched the ball to Winston Park who strode down the field and from 35 yards blasted his side level before anyone else even realised the second half had begun.
Kalilou Florentin though did his future international chances no harm at all, as he scored on 50 and 55 minutes, and when substitute Bridece Azor made it four one eight minutes from time a satisfying evening's work seem done and dusted. More comedy defending at a corner though allowed Costa Rica a second but in the end it was indeed a confidence boosting win. The defence though are going to have to pull their socks up.
In Grenada, the U-20 side showed little signed of promise as they went down by 2-0 and in the full game Herby Fortunat took his international goals tally to six in five matches with a fine brace. Grenada did pull back a late consolation but the year would end nevertheless with Enrique's unblemished record intact. Which would be a huge boost for the World Cup 2010 Qualifying which would begin next year.
Enrique knew his life depended on doing well there.......
