I read that Niall Quinn has taken a swipe at certain clubs over their inflation of transfer fees so far this summer, singling out Portsmouth and West Ham as the main culprits. He claims that clubs like these are pricing Sunderland out of the market. I admire Quinn as both a player and for what he has done since taking charge at the Stadium of Light, but as a West Ham fan I need to set the record straight here.
To my knowledge we never made any officials bids for Baines, Gordon or Nugent (quality players the Black Cats have missed out on lately). Likewise, I do not believe that Sunderland ever expressed an interest in signing the likes of Bellamy, Faubert, Ljungberg or Parker. West Ham have paid good money for these players, and personally given their quality and Premiership experience (excluding Faubert) I think this has all been money well spent.
I hope you guys do well this season, but I think it is immature of Quinn to blame us for his inability to secure Roy Keane's transfer targets.
