Default My Chelmsford City story

Well, I recently joined the FM Forums and ever since I joined I was hooked on the stories. After reading several enjoyable ones, I decided to create one myself. This is my first story so any help through out the story would be very appreciated. I decided to use my local football team, Chelmsford Cityl. They start of in the Isthmian Premier Division, a non playable league, so I used the editor to put them in the conference south. I also updated the team. I am using Football Manager 7.0 so the squad has not been updated. I updated is far as I could but I could not find all the players. Anyway, enough talking about my story, it's time for my story to begin.

Club Information
Name: Chelmsford City FC
Competition(s): Conference South, FA Trophy, FA Cup
Finances: Okay
Stadium: New Lodge, Billericay
Fierce Rivals: Braintree
Other Rivals: Billericay, Heybridge

I have already played my friendlies. I'm not going to go any detail into them because they are ownly friendlies. When it comes to other matches they will be as detailed as possible. I'll just say the results.

Grantham 3-1 Chelmsford City
Chelmsford City 1-2 Woking
Chelmsford City 1-1 Brighton
Dover 4-1 Chelmsford City
Stalybridge 0-2 Chelmsford City
Mangotsfield 1-1 Chelmsford City

On the day of drawing 1-1 with Brighton, I managed to sign Lee Boylan on a Free Transfer.

My league campaign starts with a home game at New Lodge against a Thurrock side who are looking to finish in a strong midtable position. As for me, I'm tipped for relegation.

Chelmsford City 3-1 Thurrock
A very pleasing start to our league campaign. After a very enjoyable first half for the Chelmsford City fans, we couldn't find a goal therefore going in at half time with the no goals netted. The second half changed in a good way for Thurrock who find their way through the Centre Backs on numerous occasions. However, my Goalkeeper, Danny Gay, managed to keep us in the game and after making a great save he hoofed a great ball down the right flank to my striker, Kezie Ibe. After making a great run down the right hand side he put a great ball in to the far post and the eventually netted by the foot of my left winger, Jamie England. After going 1-0 up my team grew with confidence and within 3 minutes we had scored another after my Central Midfielder, Mario Noto tapped the ball into the net after Jamie England put a low cross into the box. However, the weakness in my Centre Backs was still there and within 2 minutes of going 2-0 up Thurrock had pulled one back after Thurrock player, Steve Harper, ran straight through my defence and blasted a shot into the top right corner, just out of Danny Gays reached. After watching Thurrock carve up my defence i decided to use a defencive mentality. This stopped the Thurrock attack carving up my defence as they had trouble getting through my defence but, however, still looked dangerous at times. I decided to take a risk as I knew if we scored 1 more goal in this last 10 minutes it would kill Thurrock off. I played an attacking mentality and Thurrock looked very dangerous. However so did I. Soon the goal came when Jamie England was fouled on the edge of the area. Lee Boylan hammered the ball in the net from the corner in the last minute. I turned back to defencive, just for injury time. Soon the final whist came and 1500 Chelmsford fans went home happy. After the win we sit in 4th position in the league.

Comments and help would be appreciated.

Thanks but the best team in Essex is Chelmsford, somehow.

Chelmsford City 1-2 Lewes
I couldn't carry the momentum on from the last game. This match was very boring for both sets of fans. The teams went in at half time at 0-0, only having created 1 chance each! It was all to change for the worse in the second half as Lewes must have changed theeir tactics. They sliced through my defence, just like Thurrock. The only way my team could hold them back was by giving away a freekick. Jared Hodgkiss took the freekick and fired it into the back of the net making it 1-0 Lewes. I had to wait another 10 minutes before my team got a shot on goal. When it did come, however, it was turned into goal as my Centre Back, Jay Conroy, headed it home to equilise. Nothing else happened until the 85th minute when Garry Holloway scored a header from a corner. My team wouldn't get another goal as i went into the changing rooms at Full Time having lost 2-1 at home. It's inly going to get harder as I have to travel to 3 different places before I play at home, atr New Lodge.

I signed 19 year old, Irish left winger, Bill Dennehy for £1,000 from Sunderland Reserves. He says that he is delighted to have agreed terms with Chelmsford and can't wait to impress the new manager. At the moment, I'm trying to find 2 new Centrebacks.

Newport Co 0-0 Chelmsford City
A rather bad display from my Chelmsford City squad this week. The only squad member that performed above expectations was my goalkeeper, Danny Gay. Although we had a bit of luck on our side they gave us the draw, Danny Gay also played a massive part. Newport hit the post on a few occasions but Danny Gay gave us the point. Newport came at us time after time and we deserved a score line that read 6-0. But as I said, luck was on our side and we returned back to Chelmsford with a point. 4 points from 3 games leaves me in 10th position. I'm hoping to gain at least 1 win out of the next to games which are away.

Basingstoke 2-3 Chelmsford
It was very pleasing to get my first away victory under my belt. This was a must win game as Basingstoke are favourites to get relegated along with me. Lee Boylan gave us an early lead as Jamie England cut the defence open with a through ball which Boylan slotted home nicely. We dominated the next 20 minutes but Basingstoke caught us on the counter and Mark Peters scored for Basingstoke. The game was then level until Oliver Garrick scored his first goal for Chelmsford on the 43rd minute. Poor defending gave Garrick the ball and he tapped it into the net. We went 3-1 up before half time as Lee Boylan got his second of the game. Again, poor defending was Basingstokes downfull and Boylan finished nicely. We were 3-1 up at half time and it looked like the game was over but Christian Levis pulled one back for Basingstoke just after half time. He scored a header from the corner making the second half an nervous one. But we held on and Lee Boylan almost got a well deserved hattrick but it wasnt to be. I'm hoping that this will help me next game, which is a travel to Salisbury.

Jeff Minto returns for the next match after missing the start of the season with a head injury. I've looked at some Centre Backs and I'm very close to signing one.

Salisbury 1-3 Chelmsford
I was very pleased 2 win 2 away games on the trot. As in most of our game, we got off to a great start with numerous chances but the goal soon came from my striker Jordao on the 12th minute. After we got the goal I thought we would gain a lot of confidene and go on to score some more. However, the complete opposite of that happend as Salisbury dominated. The innevitable soon happened and they scored level with a fantastic strike from Matt Tubbs. Salisbury would control the game but they wouldn't score anymore before half time. Salisbury would dominate the second half but we manged to get a shot on in the 70th minute. This must have boosted our confidence or something, because we continued to push their defence and win a corner which Oliver Garrick scored a well won header from. We dominated the rest of the game and 6 minutes later Lee Boylan hit a fierce shot only for the Salisbury keeper to fumble it in to the goal. I now have 2 home games on the trot and they hopefully will get me wins.

Chelmsford 1-1 Welling
After winning my last 3 games I was really confident in winning this one and it showed in the teams first half performance. Within 20 minutes we were 1-0 up after Lee Boylan put acroos in for Jeff Minton who controled the ball and placed into the back of the net. The scores stayed like that until half time and we were in cruise control, foot in the gas. Welling didn't have a shot. Things changed at half time though and Welling started pushing at me and they eventually got their way passed Danny Gay in the 85th minute. Dissapointed and think of a tactic that could snatch at the last minute, I watched Kezie Ibe take a shot which was deflected and heading for the far corner, way out the keepers reach. However, a defender managed to scramble it off the line for a throw. I thought it had gone in but i was heavily dissapointed. But to take positives, I'm on a 4 match unbeaten run and sit in 5th place in the league, a play off place. Eventhough I am favourites to finish last and the season is only 6 games in, I'm setting my sights high for a top half finish.

Chelmsford 2-3 Farnborough
After 4 games without defeat we fall to a very strong Farnborough side, even though we had done enough to win the game, that's football sometimes. I went 1-0 down within a matter of minutes. Danny Gay was lobbed from long range by Tony Hopper. However, this only inspired us to get the equiliser. It didn't come for a while. Farnorough earned a freekick near in our half but near the halfway line. Jeff Minton was caught pushing a Farnborough player and saw red straight away. Angered at the sending of, I felt that a win was slipping out of our grasp. However, a poor taken freekick saw Conroy hoof the ball upfield to find Lee Boylan who crossed it in to Jordao who headed it home. The teams went in at half time with the scores 1-1. Not a lot happened after the break. Chancs here and there but nothing major happened until Lee Boylan headed home a corner to put us in the lead. We were playing really well, not letting Farborough having a sniff off the ball until they were given a goal kick. Unfortunatly this was turned into a goal as the keeper hoofed upfield onto the head of one of their players who nodded it on to the path of Tony Hopper who scored to get his second of the game. 10 minutes later, Hopper earned his hattrick but placing a shot in after a low cross. With 5 minutes left, my players couldn't find an equiliser leaving the Chelmsford fans going home dissapointed. I still hold a strong position in the league.

I decided to appeal for the 1 match ban against Jeff Minton, as I feel it was only a yellow card offence.

Before the game a managed to sign Gary Caines, my new Centre Back.

Havant & W 2-0 Chelmsford
A few of my players gave good performances but overall I was outclassed by a Havant & W side. I was dominaed from start to finish and their gap should have been even greater. We managed to hold the fort for 25 minutes but they soon broke through with a shot that sped past the keeper. They continued to dominant the first half but no more goals were scored. When we came back out we were dominated again but we managed to not concede any goald until the 83rd minute when Baptiste scored a fabulous strike from long range. Their win was deserved but I was very pleased from the performance of my new Centre Back, Gary Caines. He had a good game and made some very good tackles.
