'This takeover is out of a love for football, I will assure you. I am a wealthy man - I have no desire nor need for more wealth. I'm a football fan and have been all of my life. Nottingham Forest are a club with a great history and now find themselves in league one - of late they have fallen on hard times and I hope to echo with the club its achievements of the past, surpass them even. I would like to see the club become the very best in the world, play brilliant football and be respected by all.'
'The search for a new manager who can spearhead this club into the bright future that I plan for, has finished. Of all the candidates that I interviewed, you may be surprised to hear that it is he who impressed me the most. Of course, to you all he is a nobody, but I am no idiot. I interviewed managers with a great deal of experience but it was he who came to me and such was his enthusiasm that I decided to hear what he had to say. Despite having no previous experience in the game, I'm delighted to announce we've hired one of the game's best - his name is Alan Chapman.'
I'm a Forest fan - Nottingham Forest that is, young enough to have been born into an era when Forest were on something of a downward spiral and certainly someway from the heights of Champion's League success. Supposedly, this is all due to change and we've reached the peak of our downfall. We've been taken over by a rich foreigner who doesn't want to profit out of the club (or so he claims) and promises a bright future of success and excellent football. Yes, it's safe to say we're about to enter a new period in the club's history, a new chapter, and I hope to record it all in this journal, which I've decided to publish online so that anyone who desires to can read what I have to say.
A few first subjects of interest to tackle then - the new manager for one. What's his name again? Alan Chapman. Don't worry, you'll be excused for not remembering the name, he's a bit of a nobody in football terms which begs the question why exactly was he appointed? The new chairman's explanation is a little hazy - the gist of it being he thinks he's the real deal, despite his absolute lack of experience. I'm in no place to pass judgment on the chairman's managerial scouting skills but forgive me for being a little cautious in offering my widespread support. In only having offered him a one year deal it would appear even the chairman has his doubts - it's a safety net if you will and he's already promised that if Chapman fails to deliver, he'll hire someone with a good deal of experience and will learn from his mistake - the first of what I hope will be few.
What to think of the new chairman? I don't know. It's easy not be inspired with confidence as there's a lot of Johnny Foreign chairman out there who clearly don't have a clue what they're doing and appoint a dozen or so managers a season while thinking they're making this all alright by throwing money at the club. On the other hand, I've no idea who this fella is and really am trying hard not to be judgmental - I'm going to give him a chance.
To the future I say. It looks brighter than it did and I'm pretty sure this is the start of something promising. It would certainly be nice to get back into the Premier League for starters.
