Should FM be simplified?
I have recently been (re-)stunned by the joy that is CM01/02. After many years of absence from my life it made a (somewhat brief) reappearance via a very old PC that I was checking still worked and it's still as much fun as it used to be.
Worryingly I find that I enjoy CM01/02 just as much as I enjoy FM2008 and so I really have to beg the question of whether this the series has become too much "sim" and too little "game". There are simply too many chores (not including the tactical system - which is hard enough work).
I would like to start a discussion on how FM could be simplified to make the game experience more intensive (working on the principle that more games in a short period of time = more intensive game). Note that I am not suggesting that features should be removed - just ways incorporated that players who want to get in-depth with these still can, while those players who find certain elements a chore can essentially use them in a far easier manner.
I'll start with a suggestion for coaching and scouting. Head Coaches and Scouts
Provide the ability to appoint a senior coach/scout who will them distribute instructions to his relative subordinates according to both his individual attributes and your instructions. Feedback levels can also be assigned - I guess they could report back as part of the monthly round-up or end of the season.
E.G. A new head scout is appointed and given instructions to find promising youth players from the EU Zone. Exceptional players would be flagged up in individual news items (5 star players if you will - or defined by the player.) Simply 'promising players' are highlighted in a round-up news item. The head scout will continually issue new instructions to scouts as they finish their assignments according to their personality, the club's knowledge and other criteria.
