I wopudl like to know how I can create the effect as used in these photos:
I found the pics on a website, saved the pics but forgot to keep the website address and am now REALLY wanting to know how I can create such effects!
Basically they are standard digital photos taken with high end camera and then manipulated in photoshop to create the "painted" effect. Especially look at the first picture. I basically want to know what that particular effect is called and how I can do the same.
I very much appreciate anyones help with this.
Hey thanks for the website address. I didnt find it on the webpage given, but on another site. I have edited the original thread and removed the pictures. Thanks.

It's Andrzej Dragan's work (one of my favorite artists) and I don't think he's going to be very happy that you post his images on this site. }
I would advice you to remove them and to replace them with this link; http://andrzejdragan.com/foto/nowawyrobniaeng.html#
It's not an effect, it's a technique (actually several techniques) and he won't tell you exactly how he did it, until you pay him a small fee. He told me how he did it, but it wouldn't be nice towards Andrzej to tell you too.
Just contact him, it's a nice guy.

I too, suggest you simply post a link to the site, and remove the copyright images you are illegally posting...I think it is against PSG Terms of Service, but am not sure.

There is a conversation about this guy's work in this forum: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...essage=9685836
He even came in and shared some of his tips. There's a ton of posts about it, so this will send you in the right direction. |

I looked up the price and it is 200 Euros ($250 USD). I'm not saying that it's not worth the money - I'm just saying a small fee to me is about $20 bucks. $250 is more of an investment!!!
Neolite.
P.S. In his self-portrait "Dirty nails", does he look like Joey Tribiano from Friends, or is it just me??? 8}

I had a thorough look thru Mr Dragans site and I have to admit I was very tempted to pay the fee to learn how to produce such work. The work is beautiful. The price is just a bit out of my capacity. But, oh well, maybe someone will learn the technique and produce some kind of tutorial. Its jus amazing what one can produce using photoshop. |

A special painted effect... Post #7 | | Guest | I have an idea...
Why don't we all chip in - buy the book - make copies and sell it on the internet? Is that wrong? Just kidding.
I know what you mean Sahin. I contemplated the same thing. I thought to myself "Am I really good enough to take advantage of the materials, or am I bad enough to think that I am good enough?" I wish he would post a sample of one of his tutorials so I could see if I'd be able to learn from it.

Don't hold your breath waiting for someone to post a "deconstruct" of Dragen's technique. First of all, it would only be an imitation, and secondly, it would be disrespectfull of Dragan as a fellow artist...
If you are semi-adept at Photoshop, you too, will be able to visually deconstruct such work. Although not exactly, you will learn that you can do almost anything at least 3 different ways in Photoshop. Once you know how to use the program, you will find that you will be able to create a very passable re-creation of the effect.
Go learn about channels, adjustment masks, and color management. Then see what you can do to re-create the effect

I'm willing to toss out a combo that I've used plenty of times. Just the basic variation as different things need different things until the eyeball likes it.
Load lum "the claw" and toss it into the channels palette.
Deselect, invert it, and load (my variation).
Add an HSB adjustment layer. This will use the inverted lum as a mask.
Up the sat and bring down the lightness.
Set the HSB ad layer to overlay or whatever looks good.
In closing:
1. Get to know how to use lum, or some relative of lum, as a mask. Yes, even on adjustment layers.
2. Blending modes, blending modes, and blending modes. Yes, even on adjustment layers.

The idea is not to copy, but to learn the technique and adapt to my own style. Even if one were to learn the technique right through, I doubt any else other than Mr Dragan will produce the same style of images as Mr Dragan is also a VERY good photographer. Part of the reason why Mr Dragans images are so good is because the ORIGINAL photos themselves hold a particular quality and style that can only come from a photographer with an excellent eye.
Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread. I am sorry to have posted the images, but I didnt know how to describe Mr Dragans technique, I didnt even know his name, nor how I could explain what I was asking about without posting the pictures. I didnt have a link etc.
I now know that a LOT of poeple have asked the same as I did in my original post. Thanks for all your help. I now have a better understanding of whats required of this technique and look forward to understanding it more. |
