Discussion: Current ability and Potential ability (CA/PA).
Hello everyone.
I've been looking around for some more detailed explanation on CA and PA but I could not find anything except some info about the -PA values.
What I'd like to see in this thread is a discussion regarding these 2 stats, and most importantly to see if the PA actually has the potential of changing in FM 08 as some people suggested.
Some of the questions I'd like answered:
1) Can PA actually change for a player or is it set in stone when the player is "born"?
2) If a player has a high PA and he is younger than 20, what's his minimum CA that he requires in order to become a world class player?
3) Can attributes such as natural fitness, pace, acceleration, etc change over time drastically? (eg: a player is 18, has a PA of 180, but has 5 for natural fitness and 9 for pace... can these through training change to something a lot higher?)
4) How many actual points of CA can a player gain per season when he is young? And how much can he gain after he is 24 when gaining stats slows down considerably?
5) Can a young player suffer a loss in CA if he plays too many competitive gains? Or can his CA stop increasing if he plays a lot of games?
6) Can CA actually go down for a young player?
So far those are the questions I can come with related to CA/PA that are harder to identify via ingame.
I can answer a few of those myself but maybe someone else more knowledgeable can answer as well.
My answers:
1) I've actually only heard about this and never witness it. I use editors such as Mini SE and FMM to check on players regularly but I was unable to find one that had his PA modified by the game. Although this feature would be very nice and realistic.
2) I've player a few long test games (10+ seasons) and tested this out a bit. I've found that players need a decent CA in order to progress to their max PA (if PA is very high). For example an 18 year old needs at least 90 CA in order to be able to reach a 180-200 PA before he is really old. Of course the higher the CA the faster the player becomes world class, and in cases where his CA is over 145 he becomes a Wonderkid (ages 19-21). I've also had cases where I had players with PA of 190+ and CA of under 80 at age 18. These players were never able to reach more than 140-150 CA in a timely fashion. The other thing affecting their development a lot is competitive matches, but I have not tested that enough to comment on.
3) From my own experience these stats are pretty much set in stone. They can chance a few numbers up and down but never more than 4-5.
4) I've tested these with a few players and I've noticed that they can gain anywhere from 10 to 25 points of CA if played regularly troughout the season. In my Portsmouth game I had a 19 years old keeper that I started playing regularly. He played 90%+ of my games every season. At start he had 114 CA and 199 PA. He was doing fantastic in the net even with such low CA, and he gained about 15-20 points a season for the first 4 seasons.
5) I don't have enough info on this to comment.
6) I don't have enough info on this to comment.
Well let's see what others have found and see what we can find out that's new about this version of the game.
