Strikers missing insane amounts of one-on-ones seem to be a problem for a lot of people post-patch. Me included.
I've seen this point raised in quite a few patch-threads but discussions about actual fixes seem to get lost in hysteric ramblings and abuse. So what I would like is for people who have encountered this problem to discuss tactical tweaks that can help the strikers when one on one with the keeper.
What I've experienced since installing the patch is that my world class strikers can't seem to score when one-on-one with the keeper. Usually they shoot straight at him or miss the target by miles.
I've read through all the "my team has 30 shots on goal and I lose 1-0!" threads but I don't think the problem with the one-on-ones has to do with creating "better chances" for the strikers. A one on one with the keeper with all the time in the world is one of the best chances in football and I've tried tweaking the tempo and the mentality of the strikers but to little avail. It's frustrating to see players like Torres, Aguero and Owen missing hatfuls of one-on-ones in every match.
Anyone have any experiences with this? Any helpful insights or ideas?
First of all, let's just look at the fundamentals of the match-machine. The match-machine is a very simple mechanism. What you are seeing when you are looking at the match-machine is a simulated match instance that gives you a miss/score opportunity. When you are missing open opportunities the game is telling you something is wrong. The game has a range of instances and it has a sort of random way of choosing which one, but still the message is the same. This problem (missing one-on-ones) is usally caused when you have a strong team and has the potential to get forward to create many chances (some of the sliders are positioned correctly according to the aspects in the current match situation).
The only "help" that I can offer is that you have to figure out if any of your instructions are contradicting your overall game-plan (attacking or defending), because this is the main reason that these things happen. If you ask any of the tactical gurus they would most likly say "get your team to play as a unit", and these are the ideologies I've addapted into my game...
Well, I always get my team to play as a unit, I have created tactics that adhere to the "team = unit" strategies, and all i've found is that it results in the matches where you have 20 shots on target while the opponent has 3 shots and you lost 3-0.
Therefore I don't think that is where the problem lies, I think it must be in the player instructions for the strikers, I am experimenting with creative freedom on the strikers at the moment, as mentality just seemed to decrease/increase the amount of shots they had. At the moment its inconclusive, and faily random, so I don't think its the creative freedom either.

That is the way it has always been explained to me as well. Just think, if you scored all one on one's, it would be 12-11 every game. At least with my open tactic!

Are you experiencing the problem with the game you've played before the patch or have you started a new game. When I started a new game, this problem was gone for me, even with the tactics I used in my old game. Same thing happened to my friend too.
well,in my opinion there isn't anything you can do. The game has changed so much since 06. Do you remember in 06 when you're strikers would score with at least 60% of their chances? They would also take the ball around the keeper and score. Now they are in space and they just try and shoot from 25yds. It started in 07 and now in 08 where the game is totally controlled by tactics in-terms of winning matches, to the point where in my opinion, it's so unrealistic. And also i firmly believe that you can tweak tweak tweak away but the problem will still be there because si have done something to the game to limit the amount of goals scored. I have tried everything - low creative freedom, lowering the tempo tweaking the instructions but i still find that my strikers and midfielders are missing absolute sitters. We just have to accept that now. Again this is just my opinion. Anyone agree with me?
Well done for starting this discussion - I was close to opening it myself.
To add something first off - I started experienceing this problem on a saved game after installing the patch. It became so frustrating that I started a new game to see if things would improve but thus far the problem persists.
There are only 4 goal types I see from my side or my opponent - tap-ins from rebounds off the keeper, penalties, headers from corners and the odd occasion when the striker rounds the goal keeper.
Every shot my players take, if it's under the cross-bar, is aimed straight at the keeper. I am seeing no shots placed in the corners as in previous versions which is a shame because the goal variety is thus much reduced.
Having read throught the fix-list on the 8.0.1 patch I noticed that one of the final fixes made was an adjustment to shooting accuracy. This has obviously occured in the patch making process at SI I guess, but perhaps it hasn't been addressed adequately as yet. It's unfortunate too becasue this is a mighty frustrating occurance.
This is by no means a whinge - I am very interested to discover how many people are experiencing this difficulty and indeed whenther it can be overcome by tactical instruction changes or training schedule modifications (as I am trying now). If this discussion is unsuccessful in finding a solution then we would have a good amount of evidence to approach SI with in asking for a solution, rather than immediately listing it as a bug.
