The key ingredient in a story is the story concept. It all starts with the idea - and these were all fine ideas. Unfortunately, only one could take home the prize.

*Arrives, looking harried and fuzzled, he looks around the hall searching, searching for what we don't know, his eyes wander around the room, moving from person to person. As he continues strolling he heads in the general direction of the bar, his eyes continue to dart from face to face. Wearing a well pressed suit, black of course, with a silver shirt and tie combo, he looks much smarter than he usually does.
As he arrives at the bar his eyes still scan the room, as if looking for someone he has lost but not being able to find it, he sits down at the bar.*
