Quite an achievement. A second season in a fairly unknown league, no real signings, and a decent mid table finish. A mere 10 points shy of challenging for the playoff spots.
Love it.

The awards dinner had been a great occasion, Ed had to admit that despite the fact that he’d been feeling far from his best as they travelled up to Paris. The FA had sent five invitations and a covering letter specified that two of these should be given to Nicolas Cami and Laurent Bédani. With Ed taking one himself that had left two, eventually he’d decided to take his assistant, Naïmi, and Bertrand Tchami – as the team’s top scorer.
Cami had enjoyed another great season, being the axis around which most of their forward play had revolved, but Ed was still slightly surprised when the 25-year-old picked up both the Player’s Player of the Season and League Two Star of the Season awards, clearly Cami was equally surprised at the level of recognition that he received – actually finding himself tongue-tied as he accepted the second.
Cami actually made it three accolades on the night, alongside Bédani they appeared in the Team of the Year line-up as compiled by the French press. The after-dinner party went on until shortly after midnight and Le Coadou had kindly arranged hotel rooms for the club’s representatives. As they relaxed in the guest’s bar they discussed the success that the club had enjoyed as well as marvelling at some of the other outstanding achievements, such as Manchester United’s domestic treble, and – for Ed at least – Huddersfield’s promotion from the basement of the English league structure as champions of Division Two.

Back ‘home’ in Pau the celebrations, though less lavish, were enjoyed by the entire club. After a very impressive dinner at a local restaurant, during which the chairman had insisted on paying tribute to anyone and everyone he could think of, the players had taken the opportunity to let their hair down at the disco that had been arranged at the club.
By now Ed was feeling worse than ever, there were no terrible symptoms but he just felt incredibly run down, at one point he’d come close to falling asleep at the bar and though he only had a couple of glasses of local beer he soon found his head very fuzzy indeed.
