Default remove/attenuate shadow from the face

Hi all,

First of all I think I've choose the good place to put this message.
I'm a newbie in PS but I want to learn more about it.
-------
I have all the time problems with bad made outdoor photos.
Some friends of mine wantted to print a photo on the paper but there is a problem with the shadow on their faces.

Is it possible somehow to remove/attenuate this shadow with PS 7.0 ? To make more visible the face/eyes .

You can see an attached example of my photo to see exactly what I mean.
For sure a good made outdoor photo could reduce such problems ...but do not forget that not all of us are best photographers .
Thank you for any suggestion.

Default remove/attenuate shadow from the face

Hi adirotaru, welcome to the community. [excited]

In cases such as this, where the shadows are so dark they're black, there's not a lot can be done to regain details. Because when the hit black, they're pretty much gone.

BUT... your photo is just shy of that level, so you CAN get back some of the details. Unfortunately, this is a Jpg image and trying to regain a lot of detail results in quality degradation.; usually in the form of pixelation and discolouration/shifting.

Open your photo and add a Levels Adjustment layer above it. Setup the setting to match what i've posted below. As you change the settings though, you can learn something by paying attention to how each one is effecting the photo.

After the Levels are set, apply the filter. Then change the layer's blend mode to Screen.

Now to help with a few more details, duplicate the photo layer, and drag the duplicate above the other 2 layers. Open the FILTER menu and choose "Other>HighPass". Set it to 2.5. The change the layer's blend mode to Soft Light.

For future reference... it doesn't take a photo expert to know how to position their subjects so that they're facing the sun. That's all you'd have to do to get better quality photos; using your current camera. That may not always get you the "shot" you want... but it'll at least improve the quality.
