Aston Villa Chairman, Randy Lerner, sat down, leaning on the table with people from the media taking pictures of him and the man next to him. The man next to him was a familiar face, an old footballer, recently retired. He played for many clubs in his 15 years, but he had always been a fan favourite at Aston Villa, a club very close to his heart. Although Aston Villa wasn’t the club he supported and followed, playing for them for 9 years was something special. Being retired for 2 years, he wanted to get back into football, and what other one than returning to the team he retired at. The nerves began to fill in the new man as questions started flying around the room.
“Why did you chose to end Martin O’Neil’s reign at Villa Park and bring in a new man?”
“Martin O’Neil took the club forward over the past couple of years and this year we want to take the club further. Martin O’Neil wasn’t the man to do that, Tom Baker is.” replied Randy Lerner.
The questions started to fly at Tom baker now.
“Do you think you are the man to take Aston Villa forward?”
“I’d like to think I am. Aston Villa is a great club, I played there for many years. They have a great group of players and they deserve European football. It’s going to be a touch task to do, especially filling Martin O’Neil’s shoes. He done very well here, at Villa Park and I hope to carry on his great achievements.”
“How do you hope to carry on Martin O’Neil’s achievements, and take the club forward?”
“I have a great group of players to use. There is no reason why this club can’t win trophies and accomplish great things. When I bring a few new players I’m sure this club will move forward and win a trophy, whether it will be this season, or next season.”
“Speaking of transfers, do you have any targets and how much has Mr. Lerner given you to spend?”
“I’ve been given a healthy budget to spend and I do have my eyes on a few targets.”
“Aston Villa have a very hard start to the season, starting with Bolton, then games against 3 of the big 4. Do you think you will gain any points with in the first 4 games?”
“I think we will gain several points. If the club wants to move forward it must gain points against any teams, whether its against the top 4 teams or the bottom 4 teams. Aston Villa deserves to be up there with the best and beating those big teams will show that they are no Pushovers!”
With that, Tom Baker and Randy Lerner got up and left. The beginning of a new era starts at Villa Park today, Tom Baker at the helm.
Aston Villa have been adding to there squad already, boosting there attack and there defence. Aston Villa spent big on striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. It took £16,000,000 to prize him away from Ajax but he now wears the 9 Aston Villa shirt. Huntelaar expressed that he is pleased to be playing in the Premiership.
To build the defence, new Aston Villa manager bought in Brazilian Centre Back, Breno for £7,600,000, although, he has to get a work permit first.
