Matlock replaces Solihull Moors and Matlock's Finanaces edited as you will see
1st June 2007: Local rag The Matlock Mercury reports that The Gladiators chairman Darrell Holmes has won the Euro Millions, its reported that he has won over £45,000,000.
3rd June: Chairman Holmes has called a press conference with local papers The Matlock Mercury and The Derbyshire Times coming to hear what he has to say.
Holmes lets the conference know that he will be putting the majority of his money into his beloved club; He wants to get the club as high in the Leagues as possibly, but nobody will actually know how much money he will be ploughing into his club.
21st June: In a surprise move by the FA, Matlock Town have been promoted into the Blue Square North league from the Unibond Premier after irregularities with Solihull Moors finances. There was general disgust by some of he clubs after the way Solihull were thrown out. Some press were speculating whether or not Mr Holmes had given a little back handed to get his club into the League.
7th July: After a lot of fuss about the club Matlock Town caused more fuss by announcing that young manager Mark Wilson will be taking the reigns of the Gladiators with immediate effect. It was a shock move with Mark Wilson having no real managerial experience apart from managing the Under 10’s team to second in there league and to the Under 10’s cup final.
8th July: I was paraded to the press and they tried there best to rile me, asking silly questions about how we had gotten promoted. I told them I couldn’t care less how we got there as long as I kept this club up there.
The next question was how much money I would be getting to spend, again I told them it was none of there business,
I couldn’t be doing with these sorts of silly questions and told the press that I would let my players doing the talking for me.
9th July: After the stupidity of the press conference I was happy to get back to the day to day running of my team. My assistant came in with his team report:-
Goalkeepers:
Stephen Reeve (16yrs old) - Good youth player, but will have to prove a lot if he is to get into my first team plans
Andy Richmond (24 yrs old) – My first team keeper, but could struggle in the higher league. Might have to look for a replacement.
Defenders:
Ryan Davis (27yrs old) – Good right sided defender who is also able to play in the middle of defence.
Liam Howley (25 yrs old) – Another right sided player who can play in the middle, not yet as good as Davis but will be a great back up if and when needed
Ryan Laight (21 yrs old) – Excellent youngster who has already established himself as a first team regular, Problem is whether or not I keep him at the club with a lot of league teams already eyeing him up. I’m going to have to get him in contract talks as soon as possible
James Lukic (26 yrs old) – Club captain and already a Gladiator legend. Plays in the centre of the defence and is an all round class act
David McNicholas (27yr old) – Good centre back but prone to the odd mistake or two, will have to keep a watchful eye on him to see of he needs replacing
Glenn Kirkwood (30yrs old) – Veteran centre back who can also play up front if needed to but getting towards the end of his career and does tend to struggle to finish the match’s
Richard Taylor (34 yrs old) – The oldest player in my first team squad. Can play as a Wing back and also in midfield so another versatile player but again his legs aren’t what they used to be, but his experience will be essential.
Paul Riley (24 yrs old) – The clubs vice captain and another versatile player who can play as a wing back as well as in midfield, could become a real asset to the club
Midfielders:
Neil Ashley (26 yrs old) – Quite a good player but not sure whether he is good enough to stand toe to toe with the players in the higher league
Stephen Warne (23 yrs old) – A good young player who has the ability to be a real asset, but must control his temper otherwise he could spend more time in the stands watching than playing
Rocky White (25yrs old) – Another good player who was established in the first team with the previous manager, but that means nothing to me. Will have to prove himself in the forthcoming friendlies.
Gary Webster (22yrs old) – A young attacking midfielder with the ability to play up front when called upon, didn’t get much of a chance with the previous manager. Yet again will have to prove himself in the friendlies
Attackers:
Simon Barraclough (24yrs old) - Top scorer last season and will feature heavily in my first team plans. Unfortunately my assistants report states is quite prone to injury.
Dene Cropper (24yrs old) – A consistent scorer last season but will miss most of pre-season with injury
Laurance Hall (23 yrs old) – A tough ass kicking player who takes no prisoners, very good in front of the net but could end up spending more time in front of the disciplinary panel, will have to keep an eye on him
Jake Oakley (16 yrs old) – Very young striker who did well for the reserves but whether he can step it up to the first team is another story. Might have to send out on loan of place back in my reserve team for the next season and have another look at him later on.
The overall team is a good mixture of players but I know I will have to bring in some more players to add some extra depth and experience to the team. My main priority is to get a goalie to cover Richmond as Reeves is a little young to be thrown into first team action.
