You know, I was watching Goal The Movie, and I found the story to be uncannily similar...
| Maybe, but I reckon this story is more enjoyable!

Goal 2 sucked big time. Never seen the first one, although this is better. |

Rep Power: 0 | Hehehe. Thanks guys. Now, who shall be the lucky actor to play Ben...
As promised, Ben was in the squad for the first Emirates Cup game against Inter Milan, although only as a substitute, as Wenger chose to start with his strongest eleven. But just being there was good enough for Ben.
A capacity crowd of 60,000 turned up to watch this glorified friendly, which made for an electrifying atmosphere.
Straight from the kickoff both teams went for the jugular, as though it was a proper European match with high stakes, and both teams showed their attacking intent. The first goal arrived courtesy of veteran winger Luis Figo. However, it didn't take long for the Gunners to level, with talisman Thierry Henry scoring the equaliser.
Just before half time however, Brazilian striker Adriano managed to convert following a corner to put Inter back in the lead, and the whistle blowed shortly after.
During the break, Wenger gave the team a rousing teamtalk, something like "this is our cup. Win it for the 60,000 people out there. You can do it!"
Well, it worked a treat, as barely 5 minutes after the game restarted, Tomas Rosicky scored a 25 yard curler to send the crowd into raptures. He certainly looked like he enjoyed that one.
Both teams kept pushing for the winner, but to no avail. Just when it seemed that the game was heading for a draw, young wonderkid Theo Walcott, who had came on as a sub for Henry at half time, put the ball past Francesco Toldo after a fantastic passing move, right in the deep throes of injury time.
The crowd went wild. Everybody, from the fans to the players on the pitch to the people on the Arsenal bench went crazy. It was amazing.
After the whistle went, all of the Arsenal bench poured onto the pitch. Although Ben was an unused sub, the magnificence of a capacity Emirates crowd overawed him. He had better get used to this...

Arsenal's next match was against German side Hamburg. And Wenger decided to give the youngsters a run out for this one. Which meant a start for Ben at right back.
Ben was highly excited about this. Finally, he gets to wear the shirt and play on the pitch for his favourite team, albeit in a friendly. But he tried to calm himself down and told himself to concentrate, for there's work to be done out there.
Hamburg, being slightly less high profile than Inter, drew a slightly smaller crowd. But still, 40,000 people is not something to be sniffed at.
However, the inexperience of Arsenal's youths was telling, as Hamburg quickly gained a two goal lead, both of them coming from Dutch playmaker Rafael van der Vaart. It was morale sapping for these greenhorns.
However, on 20 minutes, young midfielder Marc Randall scored a 30 yard scorcher that could easily rival Rosicky's strike the day before for audacity and skill. The youths were ecstatic. They were back in the game.
However, it was not to be. The rest of the match played out weakly, with the Germans trying to conserve energy and the youngsters not able to find a way through for the equaliser. A slightly disappointing defeat for Arsenal.
However, Wenger tried to encourage them afterwards. "It was a good effort boys. You guys gave a good account of yourselves out there. Don't be discouraged."
In the other match, Paris Saint Germain beat Inter 1-0 to be level with the Germans on 4 points, having drawn 1-1 with them the day before. Arsenal were on 3 points, with Inter having none.

For the final match against PSG, Wenger reverted to using his stars, giving the youngsters a rest. Ben once again found himself on the bench, though he hoped to come on at some point.
Arsenal certainly didn't waste any time showing their intentions, quickly getting into a three goal lead, with a Thierry Henry double sandwiching Cesc Fabregas' strike. They certainly were in cruise control against the helpless French.
At half time, Wenger advised the team to take it easy, and not risk any major injuries. Ben saw some action too, coming on for Tomas Rosicky. Effectivly this meant that Ben was playing in midfield, something he wasn't really accustomed to, but he'll adapt.
As expected, Arsenal took their gas off the pedal for the second period. And despite Pauleta getting a late consolation, Arsenal closed out the win.
With Hamburg being held to a 0-0 draw by Inter in the other match, this meant that Arsenal had won the Emirates Cup. Even though it was quite a meaningless trophy, try telling that to the team, who celebrated as though they had won the Champions' League. For Ben, it was a first experience at winning a trophy, after the disaster that happened at Woodlands not too long ago. It certainly felt good to be part of a winning side.

The Gunners still had to attend another pre-season cup, the Amsterdam Tournament hosted by Ajax. However, the youths were instructed to stay behind to prepare for their trip to Malaysia. This included Ben of course.
Ben went home to pack his bags, and inform Rachel about the trip.
"Dear," he started, "I'm going to Malaysia with the youth team for a tournament."
Ben was feeling a bit amorous, and he went up to Rachel to cuddle her.
"You're allowed to go too," he continued, "I think we should be able to make a quick trip to Singapore whilst we're there to visit my parents." All this while he was sucking her neck. (Yuck :eek
"Ben, stop." Rachel resisted. "I'm making dinner."
"Why, don't you like that?"
"Look," she complained, "All day you go out there and make a fool out of yourself, and I'm here at home slogging away. And once you come home you demand sex without rhyme or reason, and not caring about me at all. Tell you what, I've had enough!"
Uh-oh, Ben thought.
"PMS?" Ben offered, not helping matters at all.
"Arrgh!" she screamed. "I'm going back to my dad's. Call me when you're ready."
And with that she packed her bags and left.
"Urrgh, bugger." Ben muttered.
"Look like I have to settle diner myself then. Bitch." |
