Why can't I use the gradient tool more than once on a layer. I lined up four flowers and put a layer mask in and used the circle gradient in the middle of each flower. It doesn't work - I mean it works once -but you use it again it delets the first circle gradient. The same thing happens with the linear gradient. If I want to fade out the top and bottom of a picture- I start at top and pull down using shift - then repeat at the bottom and it cancels out the top fade out. i know this is real elementary stuff but theres got to be some trick to using a gradient multiple times. \:] }P

Hello! Ferlin
I used to have the same problem [slick] . When you selecting Gradient on the top pallete there is "MODE" (close to reverse check box) in wich you can choose from "Color burn, Ovelay, Multiply etc..." i always use gradients in Overlay mode.
If that one didn`t help, try this one:
Make a new Layer, than use transperant gradient (Means one visible and one invisible [slick] ) and than apply every new gradient on every new flower on new Layer.
I hope that helps [stuned] ... good luck Ferlin

Sergey's right.
You can use the yourcolour to transparancy as many times you want on one layer.
You can also use overlay.

Overlay is the hird one of the basic triad of blend modes.
The first is multiply: everything except for pure white becomes darker.
The second one is screen: everything but pure black becomes lighter.
Overlay takes the best of both: everything darker than middle grey becomes darker, and evrything lighter than middle grey becomes ligher.

Just for fun: create a very colourful gradient and set to difference mode. then draw from another angle, or with another type of grad.
Fun guaranteed!

I agree Erik, but i think the best way to play with gradients is:
Make a black background, set your gradient to Lighten with black and white color than do anything you want (means with gradients) on one single layer. Than if you`d like you can go to Hue/Sat and Colorize it. It works well for me
