Photoshop acting strange - help Post #1 | | Guest | Photoshop acting strange - help
Lately when I try and open any of my old images (or new ones for that matter) I get this dialog box:
The document "Architecture.jpg" has an embedded color profile that does not match the current RGB working space. The embedded profile will be used instead of the working space.
Embedded: sRGB IEC61966-2.1
Working: Adobe RGB (1998)
What's up? Does anyone know? This started happening right after my program mysteriously updated itself and reset all my setting back to default. It does this "update" occasionally but has never fooled with my color settings before and I don't know how to make the dialog box go away.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Lee

Do this :
Edit>Color settings: Custom
Advanced Mode : checked
and change
Working space: RGB: sRGB IEC61966-2.1
Hit OK, and next time when you open your images the dialog box will not show.

It means that in Photoshop, when in RGB mode, you are currently working in AdobeRGB mode, and that before you were working in sRGB.
The difference is that AdobeRGB has a larger gamut (range) of colours but is usually only used for print (and not even always for home deskjet printers).
sRGB has a smaller range. You can observe this when you open a pic with much saturated greens, blues and orangy-reds. When in AdobeRGB (like you are now) go to Window>Proof setup and choose Monitor RGB.
Now use Ctrl+Z to toggle between the two.
There is no use to use AdobeRGB when you work for example for the Internet as many works will look bleached-out when seen in other apps (browsers, Irfanview, ...)
Which is why Liljana's advice is a very good one. In fact: you can put colour management simply off altogether when working for the web.

Hi Lee,
I pulled this out of the photoshop help files. Is this what you are talking about? SOunds like your color profiles are different. In the Photoshop CS for digital photographers it is mentioned you should use the Adobe RGB 1998 Color profile. That is of course... if you are in to digital photography. I found this info under Preferences in the help files.
Not sure if I am on the right track?
To customize color management policies:
In the Color Settings dialog box, under Color Management Policies, choose one of the following to set the default color management policy for each color mode:
Off if you do not want to color-manage new, imported, or opened color data.
Preserve Embedded Profiles if you anticipate working with a mix of color-managed and non-color-managed documents, or with documents that use different profiles within the same color mode.
Convert to Working Space if you want to force all documents to use the current working space.
For detailed descriptions of the default behaviors associated with each policy option, see the table following this procedure.
For Profile Mismatches, select either, both, or neither of the following:
Ask When Opening to display a message whenever you open a document tagged with a profile other than the current working space. You will be given the option to override the policy's default behavior.
Ask When Pasting to display a message whenever color profile mismatches occur as colors are imported into a document (via pasting, drag-and-drop, placing, and so on). You will be given the option to override the policy's default behavior.
The availability of options for Profile Mismatches depends on which policies have been specified.
For Missing Profiles, select Ask When Opening to display a message whenever you open an untagged document. You will be given the option to override the policy's default behavior.
The availability of options for Missing Profiles depends on which policies have been specified.
It is strongly recommended that you keep the Ask When Opening and Ask When Pasting
Take care, Hatch

Photoshop acting strange - help Post #5 | | Guest | Photoshop acting strange - help
Thanks everyone. That was it. [righton]
Just had a second thought. Why does my PS keep reverting back to default occasionally? This is most aggravating. About once every two months or so this happens and I have to go back and change all the default settings to my preferences again. CS also occasionally tells me through a dialog box that my system has changed and I need to go back and register when, in fact, nothing has changed on my computer.
Is anyone else having this problems? Is there a way to stop it?
Thanks again. | |

Never had CS as I don't like the registering method. To reduce illegal use of PS, they have sacrificed the ones who did pay.
As for those prefs: I run PS7 since it came out and I never had one single problem with it.
