Default Is GIMP2.0 good enough for creating facepacks/skinning?

Everyone on here recommends using Photoshop for editing graphics and creating skins etc, but I've always used GIMP for all my graphics editing. However, I've never tried to use it for anything to do with FM. Is there something I'd need that GIMP can't handle? Or would it be up to the job?

Since it's a free package, I would have thought that more people would be using it if it were capable, but I've never even seen it get a mention.

Anyone know for sure? I'd like to get into some skinning, but I don't have access to Photoshop and it's way out of my price range...

All fm graphics files need to be saved as .PNG But i think Photoshop is better because it has better tools and stuff, Not sure about Gimp to be fair.

Yeah you can create them in GIMP with no problems, that's what I've been doing. The only problem is that you won't be able to use photoshop actions in it (unless there is a plugin for it out there somewhere). Most things you can do in photoshop that would be needed to make facepacks/skins etc can be done in GIMP though.

I've only used GIMP once and it wasn't as good as Photoshop which I am used to but I still think it's good enough to create graphics for the game.
