Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default how to beat man utd

I am chelsea and cannot beat man utd. They are my boogie team...i cant figure out how to beat them they have too much pace and are really strongh with nani ronaldo tevez and rooney.

I lost the charity shield to them, the league with 8 points, and eliminated me in the league cup...i only won once...and the won about 5 matches.

Defend Deep, use 2DMs and hit them on the counter with Malouda and Kalou on the wings. Tight mark their wingers and strikers, but don't close them down, they'll burn you.

Counter attacking football helps beat Manu U, especially at Old Trafford where they least expect it.

Yes, try that. That's more or less what I'd do. Although I'd close the wingers down and NOT tight mark, maybe I have that the wrong way round ?

This has been debated a lot. From what I know of football terms, 'tight marking' would imply to always keep a close eye on what your man is doing, and NEVER let him past you even if it means he gets a better view to make a cross or a through ball.

'Closing down' I take to mean always stay close to your man and deny him space to shoot or pass. The risk of him getting past you is greater, though, especially if he is pacey.

Tight marking and closing down used together would be great when dealing with slow playmakers, taking them out of the game, but a pacey winger will just knock the ball past you and leave you chasing him.

Likewise, tightmarking a long range sniper like Lampard or Scholes without closing them down will allow them to get into bombardment range and blast you goalie senseless.

In short, I only tight mark pacey wingers (and strikers if my DCs are not too slow), I only close down long shot specialists and slow but dangerous targetmen, and I use both on slow playmaker types like Riquelme.

Or just "Tackle Hard" that may solve it I may have to do some tinkering then.

If my left back is quick enough, then I'd tight mark their fast, technical winger. but wouldn't it be a problem for a slow defender to tight mark, because if the winger (Ronaldo/Giggs/Nani/Anderson/Roony - often swap) actually runs onto the ball or with skill collects the ball, your or my defender is left for dead?

If you close down, then hopefully the defender could/should snuff out the pass?

Tricky question really.

I'll really have to look at that, next time I play against those types of players.

Use a new user as man utd lol ! Juz joking

Get Fast Defenders and play offensive . And remember to counter.
Man mark their main players and set tackling to easy for players with obvious high temperament.

I did this and i almost beat them though.
The score was West Brom 4 - 5 Man united
they can defend well for nuts in my game.
But they reached the final for all competitions in game and got a treble! But they lost the league cup to Reading lol.
Btw they won 18 on the trot and were unbeaten for 33 matches.( MAN U are extremely overrated )
