Can anyone offer any advice on how to best utilise slow defenders ?
I have two, Garcia, who has performed quite well over the last couple of seasons but has always been played alongside a pacey defender, and Gnanou whose just finished his term at my Belgium feeder, but is becoming disillusioned at the lack of first team opportunities.
Both defenders have great defensive qualities, and Gnanou looks like he could be a fantastic defender but his incredibly slow pace lets him down and makes me reluctant to give him that first team break.
Is there anything I can do tactically to get the best out of these defenders without having them getting continuously caught out by speedy forwards ??
All advice will be appreciated as I'd really like to use them both regularly.
I often have slow defenders too, what I would do is make sure they do as little as possible and keep it simple. Don't have them close down too early as they will get caught out. Play them deepish and make Gnanou sightly deeper than Garcia as he is he slowest one.
Although I am not new to the series, 08 is the first really where I've had to start dabbling in tactics so could you advise on what I need to do to take advantage of your advice ?? In layman terms :-)
