Okay the game aint perfect, but i'm an addict and would rather try to find something that i can live with, rather than stop playing.
Here are a few hints and tips that you can try, ignore or tell me i'm an idiot?, but they DO work if implemented properly!.
Defensive Line
I basically change this EVERY game, as it can be the difference between winning and losing.
If i'm up against 1 or 2 fast strikers(acell and pace 15+) i'll set it deep, usually around 4.
Against strikers with acell and pace stats between 13 and 14, i'll set it around 7, as although my defenders are all faster than this, quite often the game does'nt pick up on this and you will see your defence being outpaced by slower strikers?.
Against slow strikers anything up to 12 for both accell and pace i set the d-line between 12 and 15 depending on the quality of striker?.
This works a treat and even better with a quick counter attack set up so long as you have the right players?.
I use a solitary fast striker set as a TM with instructions to "run onto ball", the deeper your defence the more easy chances he'll get, of course you'll still see him miss often enough to have you annoyed, but he usually tucks at least 1 away bless him.
If you want to utilise the striker as suggested above you need to make sure both his acceleration and pace are both at least 17 to get the very best out of him.
If you find you regularly come up against both a slow striker who's good in the air and a small pacey striker, i've found it best to stick with the deep d-line and man mark the big striker with your defender with the best headin/jumping ability.
Maybe you already do this and maybe not?, if not i'd suggest giving it a go i think you will be pleasantly suprised.
