Hi, I'm on my first season with Barca. I play 4-3-2-1, with Messi on the Right Wing. So far, he has played 25 matches, and he's averaged out at 7.03 overall. His best rating in a game has been 8, his worst 6. He has scored 6, assisted 9.
Is this normal for Messi? I thought he'd be a lot better, but he hasn't even got a 9 rating in a match yet.

Is there better postition to play him in to maximise his abilities, and what individual tactics would be best for him?

Any advice is appreciated.

Play him as n AMR. I've never had him but knowing his traits try:

Mentality: Attacking (all the way)
Creativity: Much (all the way)

FR, RWB on often.
LS on mixed.
TB, CB on often.

Give him a free role as well. Should work.

I can't really answer you question as i'm not far enough in to the first season with Barca.

But I have a the same think about playing Messi and getting the best out of him!!

I like playing a 4-4-2 with Henry and Eto'o up top. One attacking midfielder and one defensive in the middle with quick skillful wingers!! So with Barca this is a problem!!

I tried a 4-1-3-2 formation, but found I was losing the midfield battle and I'd leak lots of goals for it!! Obviously I'd score shed loads as well but I'd rather be sound at the back first and foremost!

So Messi is stuck out on the wings in my 4-4-2 which i think is a waste!!

Hmm, I've tried different formatins with Barca in the past but this 4-5-1 formation is the best so far. Doing great;
Top of the league by 9 points (8 matches left), in CL Q-Finals, in Finals for Spanish Cup.

I'll see if he performs any better when he's back.

BTW, have any of you ever seen someone take a shot from their on half? Messi took a from his own half, from the edge of the centre cirle, (the GK was on his penalty spot), and it nearly went in! I think it either hit the crossbar, or the top netting. Woulda been sweet if it went in

I have messi playing AML or AMR as i rotate him from either wing depending on whether i play babel or matias fernandes, but hes got a 7.30 av.rat for me and 9 goals and 8 assits and im just into december.

yep i've had this, barzagli (of all people!) score from open play for me from inside of the center circle of my own half. i think it might have been one of those ronaldinho "is it a cross or a shot" type crosses

he did once for club (ac milan) and in the same season, again for country (i'm manager of both). saved those pkms too.

not as good as in fm07, my dag & red keeper took a goal kick (inside his area obviously) and scored a total fluke, i still got slaughtered in that game despite that morale boosting goal!

Messi = Striker. :thup:

Trust me him and Henry with Ronaldinho behind is the formation you need. Deco?...Decp who? He's a flop dont play him. Keep Iniesta and Xavi controlling the midfielf, or better still get VDV to replace Iniesta, and Toure to anchor the midfield. You will have a dream side. Also set your full backs mentality to defensive.

Wow, that's pretty good. Very good compared to mine. Sometimes I forget that he's even playing, until he does a beautiful run and scores a nice goal.

One time, Eto was my only available striker, and he got injured on 60th minute, I put Messi upfront and he scored a hat-trick. Lucky match though I guess. He has the stats to be a striker, I might have to train him in that position. But I have a lot of up and coming wonderkid strikers. Gonne be competitive for 1st 11

I use messi on the left of 3 central attacking midfielders.

He scored 22 from 43 appearances last season including a hat-trick in the european cup final.
