In my game I am playing as Cardiff City. Basically Man Utd have sold Ronaldo, Rooney and many other star players over the years. Surely this is not at all realistic? Rooney was sold at 28 (his peak?) for 39.5 mill. Ronaldo at 25 for 53 million.

Perhaps like they sold Van Nistelrooy and Beckham.

It happens and it sounds like they got some good money for them.

check the club info.....are they in administartion? are they bankrupt...

Funny you mention this. Just the other day I was on another forum and there is a thread about Chelsea selling all their team. A lot of star players were sold relatively cheaply.

You may not agree with the decision but it seems fairly realistic to me.
First take a huge debt to service. Then take the fact that very few players want to (or do) stay with one club. Factor in ambition, greed and changes in management and I could see that scenario coming true.
