I hardly ever pick a team to suit the opposition because I have found the scouting reports to be almost useless. I just pick the best available players and use one of three similar 442 based tactics.

There seems to be lot of randomness but, sorry to use this phrase, in real life football, randomness is commonplace. This is why I have never placed a bet on the outcome of a football match. With the big clubs, results are more predictable, but mid table Div 2 results are hard to predict. When I turn up at the Den, I am never certain of a home win. Anything is possible!

Despite my on loan premiership reserve strikers regularly blasting one on ones and point blank shots either over the bar or straight at the 'Gordon Banks' like goalie, in most games, I am in with a shout of drawing or sneaking a 1-0 win.

I know what you mean, I find the game really difficult but finally I had a good season with Barcelona in which I came second and finished the season winning 11 games in a row. I was pipped to the title by a Real Madrid side who didn't lose a single match.

I'm with Fiorentina, i have the best Serie A team by far (not even Inter or Milan get near), i had a game against Perugia at my home.
It was an easy win, for sure...

The game starts and i immediately get nailed back to my half of the field. It seemed like i was playing Chelsea or something!
I get the first goal at about minute 2, the second almost after 10 mins and a third one at the end of the first half.
I got angry with my players and the second half i scored 1 goal but suffered yet another one!
4-1 total... What a load of bulsh*t!

So i just went back, didn't save and tried to play the same game again.
Same tactic, same individual markings, same everything!
I won 6-0 and they almost didn't get near my goal.

This is just one example of the many i could give. I think this randomness (i can't explain it otherwise) in game results is kind of sucky imo.
get a time machine and replay one match in real life and you'll see that there are many random facts in real life that can completely change things. early injuries, rash decision making etc.

The first post sums up everything that is right with FM. It is supposed to be a challenge. If you can turn things around, you'll find it to be rewarding.

This is simply what FM is. Losing is a good thing.

Seems like most people deciding that they can't play the game anymore have taken over a top 5 club, sold every hardworking git in it, bought about 6 new wonderfully talented players and now wanna know why they arent scoring 10+ goals every game.

not true.
the amount of changes to the match engine means that you can't just port your beta tactics straight into the full patch game.

but if people aren't willing to put the effort in then what do they expect?

The problem is probably not entirely tactical. Your team gets a morale drop after they lose and aren't inspired to play the next games and do not perform well. Try making comments that take the pressure off the players, and they won't be so edgy before the games.
