The player will be 'wnt' if they are on a clubs short list.

if a player is on your short list you see the 'wtd' icon appear, much more noticeable in network games etc

One of those areas that the game heavily favours the AI.

AI teams continually bid for players who they should have no knowledge of, an example in FM07 was Guardado where despite clubs having no knowledge of that region, they turned up with out of the blue bids, I also tested if the player was on the player list if I switched to the bidding club and he wasn't.

that these players should be on their shortlists but aren't.

or maybe it's just a shortcut to make sure you dont have it all your way.
i mean lets be honest. how many of us have spotted a great player 6 years into a save. then when we've started a new game picked up that player as an unknown 16 year old despite the fact we should have no knoweldge of him?

it may just be a way of balancing things out.

No one had heard of Petr Cech?

He was one of the top keepers in Ligue 1 which is one of the most if not the most scouted league in Europe since EPL and the other big 2 get an incredible amount of their players from there. (Just try to count the number of current and past EPL players who are former Ligue 1 players! The list is endless and more than any other league by some distance!)

So being as good as he was, in a league that a lot of people watch and especially staff and scouts of those in EPL and other top leagues, and being as young as he was, he was always gonna get attention and move on sooner or later.

AND, he was already at that point (at Rennes), also the #1 choice keeper for one of the strongest and most talented national teams out there in Czech Republic.

So a lot of people knew about him. Maybe not you, but many of us did and every big club was nearly after him and keeping tabs on him.

In any case, what T-bag said makes sense and is what I wanted to say. So I won't repeat.
