Does it make sense to play a quick short passing game with a 4-4-2?
Does it make sense to try and play a quick short passing game with a 4-4-2 formation?
The reason I'm asking is cos usually when I play a slow short passing tempo game I always have a rather crowded midfield so that players can easily find another player to give a short pass to. I usually have 3 MC's and an AMC. And sometimes even a DMC.
But I'm trying develop a tactic using wingers so that I can incorporate players like Robben, Ronaldo and messi and exploit their pace. And since a 4-4-2 is naturally a more wide formation players are further away from each other.
I'm managing Real Madrid so I'm trying to play nice football.I'm trying to develop a nice quick short passing game and using fast explosive wingers.
Any advice pls?
Thx

If you want to play a quick short passing game, then you will always need players available to pass to. Personally, I believe a quick, short game is best suited to a 433, with a DMC and 2 AML/Rs. One of the Mc's should have an attacking mentality, and Fwd runs often. This should mean that players should find space easier and hence keep the ball.
You need the right players for to play this type of football as well. All your midfielders, attacking players and even fullbacks, but to a lesser extent, should have:
- good off the ball skills so they find space
- good passing ability
- high stamina so that they can last 90mins at high pace
- good first touch so they can control the ball in a tight space.
Just my opinions of course. Hope it helps you in some way!

I agree, first touch, passing and off the ball are paramount if you want to play like that. I would imagine Real have that in bucket loads!
Managing Dag & Red however calls for...well lets say a slightly more pragmatic approach. My heart says short and quick but my players need to be at least normal tempo/mixed passing.
