I was playing as England, trying to prove that I was a better candidate than McClaren (successfully). I was picking a squad for a friendly against South Korea in February 08 and it said Rooney was injured and couldn't be included.

I confirmed the squad then went to check how long Rooney was out for. It turns out that he wasn't even injured anymore so I grumbled to myself and got on with it.

Next day I got a news item that a player was injured and a replacement could be called up, so I immediately went to Rooney. He rejected the call-up, saying if he wasn't first choice he didn't want to play at all, and now his international morale has been on poor for 4 months.

In fairness I probably shouldn't have demanded an apology from him, maybe then he'd play friendlies, but he only plays competitive matches now.

Me and Alan Smith in FM07 used to go through the same routine everytime I announced a squad. It was a pain, especially as that Rooney 2 games suspension bug made me need him.
