The editability part I dont mind very much. I can always edit it in PS. The lost of quality is worse.
But maybe it is me doing something wrong.

Do you have any options Dirk within InDesign that allow you to choose a specific graphic format for imported artwork? Because if you do, i'd suggest choosing 24bit PNG. That should maintain the quality. So will BMP for that matter.

Ping and and bmp are normaly not used in the print world. But I found the ferfect solution. Saving as Photoshop PDF. You can still edit this file, it keeps transparency en the vector data.

Give it a try.

Yes i realize that png and bmp are not normally used for print work. However, when used within a specific software (and not as a stand-alone file) it should be ok. And besides that, there's not a whole lot of other options in this type of case.

However... i do agree that PDF is the way to go actually. Thanks for pointing that out.

It's also a better solution because the PDF format supports 32bit gradients. And is quickly becoming the popular choice of print shops.

I always send PDF's to the printers I work with. The problem with PS PDF was that I was losing tranparency. Turned out I was overlooking a setting
