Something still catches on to me in FM 08. Can anyone, or even SI, explain to me the differences between white and yellow stars in players' or team's report?

Of course, that's what I thought. However, I came across one who's CA is like 2 yellow star but his PA is like 5 white stars. Forgot which youngster from which club's youth academy.

White stars are the standard for young players (youth).
5 white stars mean the player is great compared to the other young players.
Yellow stars are the standard of non youth players.
I got this information from the "Help" option of the game.

If a youth player is judged to be capable of playing with the "Big Boys", he will have yellow/golden stars from what I observe.

lets start the conversation again

i have a 15 year old keeper who was given 1 gold star.
i was told that youth players get compared to other youth players and get given silver stars.

others tell me that a youth player may get a gold star if he isn't far off my curretn players PA.
i'm liverpool so a 15 year old isn't going to be any where near reina.

it can't be that yellow stars means the player has more ability that white stars. as if it goes through the white stars then on to yellow stars because i'm sure the conference league players have yellow stars. and some of them aren't going to be as good as my youth players with 6 white stars.

The white/silver stars are for youth players. The gold stars are for senior players. The more, the better. For example, you may see 5 silver stars for a player's current ability but only 2 gold stars for their potential. This would signify that they are a good youth player for your sides, but it is likely he will only end up as an average senior player.

a 15 year old is a youth player though no? and he had 1 gold star for me.

so is there a function for the game deciding whether to compare a youth player to a fellow youth player or to a senior player?
or is it completely random?#
or is it not based on such ?
