I suppose this might be better placed in Bugs or Database forums, but it's not really a bug, and pictures aren't in the database, so I decided to put it here.
And I suppose everyone already knows about it, but I haven't been able to find any mention of it, so I decided to point it out anyway.
I thought it might have been something I've done wrong, but I checked and re-checked... there's no installation options where I'd be able to deselect pictures, my graphics preferences are set to include both real and generated pictures, and I haven't fiddled with any game files.
How come there are no pictures of Italian-based players or staff? And I'm not talking about Serie C, I'm talking about Serie A, with some of the strongest and most famous clubs, players and managers in the world.
A few examples: Gianluigi Buffon, the best goalkeeper in the world, has no picture. Neither does Marcello Lippi, arguably one of the best managers in the world. Ronaldo, Gilardino, Kaka, Trezeguet, Adriano... none of them have pictures.

I'm running a large database, with Croatia, Italy, Germany, Spain and England selected as playable, and most other European nations' players, as well as Argentina and Brazil loaded.
So... did they forget to put them into the game, did I really manage to screw up something somewhere, or is there a problem with my installation?
Hmm... I just checked something, and it appears only the Spanish league has player pictures... :-/
its always been like this. the developers have the rights to certain official graphics (including players photographs) for each league. the only major ones seemingly logos for ligue 1 and logos and photos for la liga.
Practically every discussion in the graphics section here is how people can get hold of and intall these graphics themselves since SI were unable to include them on the original game
It's all down to what licenses we have an what these licenses allow us to display in the game.
With regards to Italy, a license has to be agreed with the clubs themselves (or whoever deal with that sort of stuff on their behalf) and this may allow us to display the club logo, team kits and player pictures or a combination of the above. In Italy, none of the licenses we have include player pictures I'm afraid. We've only ever had player pictures for Milan in our game and that was back in FM 2005.
With the others in the game, those are generally the leagues who the license is agreed with and again, it depends what we can show.
In France we can show team logos and kits but not player pictures. In Spain we can show team logos, kits and player pictures.

What, no logos or kits either in the Premiership? And I thought Italy was gimped...
A shame, but I guess it can't be helped. I hope in the near future the clubs of the world can see the benefit FM brings to the popularity of the sport (I don't even like football that much, I only follow it somewhat thanks to the series) and give SI the necessary licences.
Though, up until now I haven't even used player pics, but with the new facegen feature it suddenly gained a lot more value.
I think I know what company that is (and really, there's only two which buy off anything and everything), and I've been miffed by their constant cutting off possibilities to others for some time now. :-/
Ter, you're saying SI has the licenses of player pictures in Spain. How come they all appear in the demo but not in the full game (only a few)
We got the Spanish pictures very close to deadline, therefore some of them didn't make it into the game. These went in a few days later for the Spanish release (which was a little later than the others) and somehow made it into the demo that was built a few days after that.
