Ignoring team orders and general acts of idiocy: decision making within the match engine
Having recently started a new game with PSV i noticed that they were behaving like a bunch of chimps, having tweaked tactics etc, i was unable to find a system that consistently worked, despite using tried and tested tactical set ups.
For example, makoun, by far one of the best central mids on the game, with my tactics set to low tempo, short passing, norm/often time wasting, low/mid creative freedom and one notch above norm mentality, he was consistently giving the ball away when there were several options available to him. This was just one example, with a whole host of players with high tema work stats generally ignoring team orders.
My initial explanation was that i had a team of idiots, so in order to test this i went as chelsea for an experimental season.
1) with long shots set to rarely kaka (the only new signing) had no less than 12 shots from 25yards+ in a single game. Ditto lampard and essien, but to lesser extents. After 12 months this equated to averages of 10, 9 and 10 long shots per game from the players respectively, despite every player being set to long shots rarely. These numbers do not include set pieces.
2) Players of generally high decisions and team work are once again not following team orders. Now i fully appreciate that with a high creativity and decision making stats players are often capable of making advantageous passes that are contrary to team orders.
However, in many cases, lampard, ballack and kaka in particular (the focal point of my passing game so to say) consistently punted the ball (8+ times per game on average) despite there being several options available to them that didn't contradict his personal tactics.
3) The "touch and smash" free kick set up. Now, if it were a case of the player with free kicks 16 laying the ball to a guy with long shots 18, i would fully accept this, however when frank lampard lays it off to john terry to hit form 30 yards you must seriously start to consider at what point this makes sense?
I found that in a large amount of matches, it was the ball winning ability of drogba and individual moments of genius that led to wins as in the majority of cases, my attempts to play slow possession football were let down by acts of idiocy or a complete disregard for team orders. Now i fully appreciate that with a poorer team you can expect them to not follow orders all the time, but a world class team with only a small amount of creative freedom should do what i ask.
After the last discussion i attempted was buried under a deluge of anti-england and various anti/pro-patch threads i am not expecting much in replies, but i fully believe that there is something wrong with the way decisions are made in the match engine and was wondering what others thought regarding this.

I completely removed long shots and creative freedom from EVERY players instructions, yet they still shoot from the most ridiculous angles, even when they have a much better option?.

I had the same problem with kaka always hitting the ball from 40 yards outside even with slider on rare.
He got "tries longshoot" as PPM..so combined with high flair and maybe creativity + mentality - yes ofc he will do that ingame.
So I delete my savegame and began a new season, but first I remove kaka ppm "tries longshoot" and gave him "plays one two's".
And now he is playing like he should..16 mentality 16 CF, RWB often, longshoot on rare, FWR often etc. Yes he still try a longshot maybe 1 or 2 times pr match - I can accept that, but its ALOT better now.
