I have just finished my first season with Aberdeen, and have now discovered that Euro 2008 is filled with some of European football's 'lesser lights'. Fairly annoying. Apparently this is some kind of punishment for people with illegal copies of the game?!
I attempted to download the demo, but for some reason it wouldn't work, so I decided to just wait for the full game and deleted the demo.
When I got the game on its release date, it installed fine, but I kept getting an error message which asked me to put in the game disc stead of the backup disc. It transpired that this was due to the copy protection or something, so I emailed Securcom and they sent me a new application file to run the game.
The game now works fine, but I'm wondering whether my game is being treated as a pirate copy or something? Anyone know any solution?
To be honest I'm angry. I've bought every version of the game since CM3, and have never had any problems. This installment has caused me nothing but grief. Its completely understandable that SI would want to protect themselves from losing money to illegal copies etc, but if its affecting people who've spent money on the game then thats just a bit ****.
Of course I could just have done something stupid, wouldn't be the first time
I've just looked at Euro 2008 on my game and seen the same thing! Belaurs has Won the European Cup. I have legit gopy (bought from Play), but did have problems installing the game. I'm quite upset about this now!
Sort it out SI!

I agree, there attempts to stop pirates just affect legitimate customers.
Yep copy protection. The sooner it's done away with the better - I mean this in a global sense not just for FM! Pirates get around it, legit buyers suffer!
so the modified .exe Securom have been sending out is triggering the 'intentional bugs' that SI put in to deter piracy via modified .exes?
i've been fortunate that the game runs fine on my PC out of the box - but there is a significant minority of gamers who have long had trouble getting Securom games running correctly. I would suggest to Sports Interactive that if they are going to use Securom in future, they ensure AHEAD OF RELEASE that people unfortunate enough to have a CD-ROM drive that Securom doesn't like, have access to a suitable fix to allow them to play they game they've legally bought in the manner it was intended
Is there any particular reason that Securom don't like some computers? They've made my game feel slightly wrong! Not that the idea of Malta winning a major tournament is unreasonable!

Sounds rather unlikely. I have purchased my copy from play.com and have had no problems at all, neither installing, nor during my first season which I have completed tonight.
The European Championships ran normally, the correct teams qualified as per the in game results and the quarter finals are next.
Nope as weedaveydavey says, it's Securom's fix for cd drives which the protection system doesn't like, which is making FM think the PC's running a pirated copy of the game. It will be interesting to see if this is happening with other games. I bet it is.
I have a legitimate copy and the same problem. I am using the backup cd aswell so is the only solution to play with the original. Does it affect the game straight away so that World CUp 2010 is not gonna get destroyed?
