Default FM 2008 Appreciation

For me personally, I thought FM2008 is an excellent game. One big improvement I noticed was the fact that it's now quite difficult to judge exactly how good a young player is when they're under 20 years of age.

I like to play a very long game with many leagues and the largest database size available. The biggest concern with previous versions was how easy the game becomes when you play it for 5+ seasons. Before FM07, I pretty much only sign players that's under 21 years old and I can have a squad with average age 22 that can win any trophy comes our way.

This changes a little in FM07 as tactics became more important and alot of the young players don't reach their full potential til 23+

But this is taken a step further in FM08. Whilst in Germany Second Division I can have a squad full of 20 year old Brazilian starlets. It changed drastically when I started manage ManU.

Scouts unable to gauge accurate about a player's CA and PA, even when their Judging Player Abilities and Judging Player Potential stats are 20. Some young player could have a scout rating of "Not worthwhile signing" at 18 to "Quality Signing" at 23. I have experienced this firsthand and I must say it's a huge leap forward.

In my currently game I'm up to Year 2016 and the challenges are still quite fresh. In previous version I can discover young gems very easily by the handful. In FM08 I can maybe find at most one great youngster every season. Which is highly realistic IMO. No longer do I sign young players and dominate. With my ManU team I pretty much only sign players over 23 years old. Or else they simply don't look good enough.

Ok, FM is no where near perfect and I myself also have lots of ideas on how I want to improve the game. But honestly, FM08 is a step in the right direction and one of the best football management game I've ever played. I've been quite disappointed really with just how negative the forum have become since the release. Yes the game has bugs and yes the new confidence thing is extremely annoying. Bug as far as a game goes, after I apply the patch, I have had no problem running it and I've had lots of fun playing it.

Keep at it SI.

Yeah me too, loving it, even was pre patch. I find people on these forums just gripe too much. I mean they keep going on about earlier versions being more realistic, I remember every match against a big team in fm 2006 finishing 4-4, 6-5 etc, doesn't really happen now.

Good work SI, choking to start on FM Live!

Agree as well, except my post below regarding players spinning on the ball, conceding this and always scoring against me. I don't mind conceding goals, just not in this ridiculous way.

This is the best version ever I've played.
