Default Opinions of Football Manager 2008

After my last post was rightly or wrongly igonored by SI(fundamentals of football manager) and most users I wanted to get an opinion on the new football manager.

I still haven't purchased football manager 2008 due to a little scepticism and academic reasons. my main fear was how fm 07 felt a lttle over complicated with the tactics, and therefore if anything has changed. I also know there is a demo available but this does not have the patch that has come out.Anyway most reviews of the game online are good, 8)5 to 90% normal. But as I found with FM 07 the game is reviewed initially, maybe a week or so when it really needs to be reviewed longer, that is why issues are brought up on forums.

So on searching for reviews I checked Amazon. the customer reviews and opinions are varied to say the least.
Customer reviews

It seems a common theme is over complication, but I dont claim to want SI to go back to CM 01/02. Its just the number of dissafected customers seems to be increasing.SI have worked hard to patch the game but I didnt get no reply from SI in my earlier thread and feel a little ignored. I hate to boast and say I played sinced such an such but i've played quite a while now and definetly before Championship manager became football manager.
Basically whats the general opinion of the new football manager. Is the tactical feedback ther now. Are tactics easily understood. Is the assistant manager good?

Any replies would be welcome.

Well, at the moment Im playing with Hull, havent bothered to even try and change any tactics whatsoever (not even selecting dead ball takers), and Im winning the league in my first season with 7 games to go.

So take it slow with the tactics, you do not need to come up with something revolutionary straight away, just one of two small tinkers may be all you need. If it doesnt work, you can always go back again.

Match engine has too many flaws, way too many. Personally I'm dissapointed.

For whatever reason, SI did not listen to its customers for FM08. Instead of concentrating its efforts on the match engine, scouting and transfer system, FM08 introduced useless features like match flow and an awful new skin. There are some nice small touches, but none that really revolutionized the game.

SI did try to improve the match engine, but the modifications were not thoroughly tested. The game was released with major flaws in the engine. The patches are slowly fixing them, but overall, the engine is actually worse than last years imo.

Definitely feel ripped off this year.

I get the feeling, having been on the forums since 08 was released and listened to all the comments, that its split about 50/50 between those who like it and those who don't. Personally i'm not too keen on it, i think si have changed some things that didn't need changing and not concentrated enough on those that did(match engine for example). Having said all that it's still the best football management game on the market, although not as improved on 07 as hoped for.

I believe after the patch it is great....should SI release it finished in the gold 8.0.1 state it will receive less criticism

but, for those who have "I cant win so it must be the game's fault" attitude, they will always feel disappointed yet they will purchase FM every time on the new release still......probably due to a lack of intelligence.

I dont think anyone who freely admits to buying two copys of a game to "to show there support" is in a posistion to say much about fanboys do you?

Cracking up over that line "i just show my support to SI by buying two copies of the game" rofl i've really heard it all now.
