With Columbus Crew, i'm limited to a wage budget of 22k a week, that's including the designated player, however other clubs are able to have players on massive wages, i.e 60k a week? My team appear to be the only team in the league where my highest paid player is on 2k a week lol!
The wage that a club can offer their DP is different depending on the club. They should only have ONE of these players in their team though. If not, then it could be a bug.
Each team has a designated player slot. However, in the actual MLS, a team can trade it's designated player slot to another team, such as in NY's case, they traded for an additional DP slot so they could have Reyna and Angel. Each team has a max of $40k, I believe, but teams might vary based on how wealthy they are.
I believe it does. In various past games on FM08, including the demo of WSM, I've played as LA Galaxy, Chivas USA, Houston Dynamo, Chicago Fire and Toronto FC, and the annual wage that can be offered to the DP was different at each club.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Columbus Crew are one of the more wealthy teams in MLS.
Plus the ability to trade the DP slot isn't in FM, kinda wish it were...but ah well.
Ah right then, thanks for that guys still not doing too badly, top of my conference after 7 games! The designated player slot is quite pointless for my Columbus Crew team in all honesty, because i can't have any players on huge wages due to a crap budget
You know, try to get someone with your designated player slot. With LA, they have a $40k budget, and Beckham's salary isn't included (to my knowledege...or it is to a very small degree). So, just try to sign someone with it, if you can get someone good for $60k +. Good luck!

The DP's wages don't count towards the wage budget...do you think that with the money Beckham is on that his wages contribute to LA's budget?
Remember that the wage cap is league-wide. Every club has the same budget. So as Claude says, try to get someone in the DP slot. It won't count towards the cap.
I have got someone in my DP slot! But my board won't let me offer anymore than £3,300 for any player because our wage budget isn't big enough! And yes i am aware of the salary cap but my actually wage budget is little over that amount!
that league is a joke i signed 8 players who were draffted in and 2 days later they all were relesed i won the league with houston and got to the semi final of champions cup

It's impossible to go over the limit. If the total salary of your squad exceeds the wage cap, you have to select who you want to register up to the limit of the wage cap. Any player not given a squad number (who isn't away on loan) is waived.
