It depends on the context- Im finding that players (albeit at LL level) are tending to always hit solid shots straight at the keeper when in 1on1 situations. What compounds the issue is that the keepers always hold the shots.

Not that I expect to score but more variety is needed- eg shots going wide, being blocked etc.

Did anyone watch Newcastle vs Liverpool yesterday?

How many fairly easy chances did Fernando Torres miss? Lots and lots. It does happen.

LOL. I love this new fanboi tactic of demanding proof. Some jerkoff even suggested that someone provide 2 seasons worth of stats to back up their case. </BLOCKQUOTE>

hang on, so in your opinion, anyone can just random accuse anyone anything without provide any thing to backup their claim? if you do believe that then you are an idiot.

Look, if all posts in the forum had to be backed up by visual proof, I doubt there by any useful forum at all... If I had to see proof of all the stories concerning strikers scoring 40+ goal/season, I'd have nothing else to do! Well, maybe post-patch I would

Furthermore, I don't think my 'claim' is depending upon whether or not there was 60, 70 or 80 shots. That wasn't the intent at least... Plus the reactions to this thread (and many similar threads) goes to show that this IS an issue that many players experience. I agree with andyinuk that you need some sort of proof if someone is claiming to have something completely new and untill now unheard of in the game. Like a programmers easter-egg of strippers across the screen or something, but this is a wellknown issue since the patch came out...

Besides, I also said that we'll probably come around this problem sooner or later. Either by new patch(!), or by some sort of tactical move that'll turn the tides in our favour again! At which point there'll probably be another rant about over other issues. People react to different sides of the game...

Guys one thing you have to realise is that FM is no longer a video game. Its a simulation, yes sometimes some buttwipe nobody keeper will play out of his skin and save the unsavable. It does happen and I dont think anyone will argue with that. And it is very annoying especially when a games on the line. But sorry to all who think goal to shot ratio is off its simply not. Its actually spot on. Watch a few games from varying leagues. You will see, there are countless examples not every year but every day. I think the hardest thing for me and I believe a lot of others is the fact that it has been unrealistic for far to long. And we have gotten used to it.

I won last seasons championships with Man Utd by eighteen points,F.A. and Carling. I won Belgian first division my first year up after winning second divis year before. I won every single game bar one for the entire year with my Newcsatle Jets. Now all those examples are stupid and totally unrealistic. Yes teams may win comps and be dominant but I had Rooney score 44 goals in all comps playin 49 games. Where was my post saying "Rooney is scoring like a freek there is something wrong!!". Would not happen. Where was my post about the fact chelsea got done 4-0 at derby. HMMM doesnt exist. All of these things happened second season playing second beta. The game is now far more realistic and the match engine provides a much better realistic example of football. I've had to revisit my ebtire tactical approach with full patch and I believe most will have to do the same. Get over to Tac and Train forum there are heaps of great starting formations adn ideas to implement.

Football itself is a nasty, mean ,unforgiving, heartrenching bithch of a game. But it is the GREATEST game in the world. I firmly believe now that im looking at it for what it is, 08 is easily the realistic version of all time. Keepers do save shots, lots of em. Strikers waste more than they take advantage of. But I will say this, I also taking all ideas of logic and pre-determination believe they could be a little worse or stikers better at shoot9ing past them not at them. Who would be a RL manager. NO FREEKIN WAY!! Sir Alex form last night after playing Fulham on his 08 game away. "for gods sake lads over there at SI, I jst saw the most unvelievable thing. First of all your stupid AI mad e my world class defender act like a dick and try a dumb header costing us a goal. And worst freeking yet the crappy Fulham keeper who conceded planty last game saved 8 shots on target in the second half. And TEVEZ missed a sitter. See the similarities here guys. RL maagers live and die by mistakes they make tactically. And players arent robots. We are now finally playing a simulation and i'm loving it. What I do and say now makes a difference. I'd say like "f you want a video game play Pro Evo. If you want to be a manager 08 is the go.

Spot on! It's a simulation... however if you can't simulate what you see on TV as you say, then we don't stand a chance! Your example with Fergie is true enough, but it also put your initial remark to the point! FM is NOT real life manager for many obvious reasons. That's a completely different debate...

Realism is not having your Barca, Milan, Man Utd, loose or draw or win one-nil to 'no-name' sides after having banged 10-15 (good) shots on target multiple matches in a row! Like I previously said, I too don't want a game in which we can all DL a Diablo tactic and buy an unknown icelandic midfielder to win everything for 5 years in a trot. But if we are to have a chance to REALISTICALLY form a winning team, there must be some sort of consistency. It's impossible to make a team 'gel' with a tactic if we constantly have to change that tactic dramatically, perhaps even change formation, because when facing small side we have to ensure that we face them so defensively that our strikers get enough space! That's bizarre, and I don't think that Fergie goes 'whoops, I must remember to tell Ronaldo NOT to be creative AND to tackle extra hard AND for the love of god, not to make any forward runs, cause we're facing the mighty Reading at Old Trafford'...

It is not realistic, I honestly cannot be bothered to elaborate more in this, 30 shots and numerous clear 1on1 chances must result in a goal from somewhere.

I can accept it happening once, hell even 5-7 times in a season, but not the amount it happens to me.

Even when I am set to defensive and counter attacking somehow I am the one who dominates and is hit on the break, ok not always but plenty of times.

Also for those saying my tactic is causing Villa to miss 1on1 chances nonstop, I say this.

That is unrealistic and needs overhauling, my tactic is in place, like Wengers for Arsenal last year, to create chances and defend. Once David Villa for example is 1on1 with the keeper it has NOTHING to do with tactics, it is down to his skills, and his skills dictate, as in real life that most of the time he will not mess things up.

I am also yet to have a game where I have 5 shots against Inter Milan say, and they have 30 and I win. No if that happened I would lose the game 4-0.

And further someone said, maybe the shots are right at the keeper.

So it may be that, not superkeepers, but the question remains why is my high compusure, high decisions, and finishing striker hitting it right at the keeper?

I think the game in general does not put enough importance on player skills, and way too much emphasis on tactics.
