I'm playing as Derby, I've not managed to win a game in 13 and so given up in embarrassment (only drew 3).
However this was almost totally linked to our home form. Away we were pretty good, never lost by more than 2 goals, and matched Arsenal, Tottenham shot for shot playing a 4-5-1 counter attacking style. I signed a player called Eremenko to play in DM, also an Italian CB to play alongside Todd. Also have an AMC in my squad called Centeno (free at start, Costa Rican).
At home however, we were totally awful. I tried every formation, from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1, even 4-4-1-1 but nothing worked. Playing 4-4-2 meant we shipped at least 4 goals. Playing 4-5-1 means we would lose 1 or 2 nil. We create far fewer chances despite having an attacking mentatlity.
Before the patch I finished first season with Derby on 33pts which I thought not a bad effort (signing only 2-3 players as well). However with this new patch I'll be lucky to get 10 points. Very frustrating.
So basically I need a home tactic for a relatively poor team, one that allows you to create chances and not ship 4-5 goals. Not sure specially on closing down and tight marking at home. I usually tell my CBs to not close down at all, man mark and mark tight. FBs just mark tight, and whole team bar CBs on closing down all the time.
It really depends on all your tactis and it is hard to say without seeing them.
Closing down and pressure is usually a must in the premier league as you cannot sit back and let them pick you apart. One thing that may be an issue is man marking with DC's. On poor sides this can lead to players be out of position and good opponents taking advantage of the space.
Is it possible you are playing too much of an attacking game when you are at home?
