The job is vacant, so the game AI will try and fill it, it will then pick a random (or best stats if its clever) available at the time.

The AI attempts to fill vacant jobs as best as it can do.

Were the any available managers with better stats who would , according to AI routines, actually apply for the management job?

It's silly anyway to transform the current state of international manager sacked into a game that starts in summer 2007.

In my game England won just the Euro 2008, as they did win a major tournament in nearly every CM/FM version in the past.

Facing the truth is sometimes hard, even for game developers.

and what exactly was steve mclaren? did he really have more than a regional reputation? okay, a prem side maybe, but a boring, forgetable manager with national status at most.
