In my opinion CM 01-02 was the best game SI produced, however FM08 rocks too and obviously it has far more features.
But it has been stated by many FM gamers than there is not as much fun or joy in the FM series compared to CM 01-02.
So I downloaded a September 2007 database update for CM 01-02 and started a game with my beloved Leeds.
I also then started a game with Leeds in FM 08 and decided that I would keep the players I had and try and use the same formation and tactics that Leeds use in real life.
Now I know the options are different in both games but I was astonished at the results.
10 games in I had won 7 drawn 1 and lost 2 in CM 01-02 but in FM 08 I had won 2 drawn 3 and lost 5.
I kept going till January where eventually, even with my -15 point deduction I got to be top of the table in CM 01-02, a fantastic achievement and Kandol & Beckford were the leading scorers.
In February I got sacked in FM 08 and ended my little experiment.
Needless to say I have not played FM08 since and I am now in my 4th season with Leeds in CM 01-02 and utterly loving it.
I simply dont understand how a game made in 2007 is less realstic, less fun to play, less accurate than a game the same company produced 6 years previous.
As a lover of all FM games I really feel SI are losing it, heck CM08 is ot that bad...
Okay maybe, but not 'CM' . . . The best game i see till now is 'FM06', this one isn't bad either but in my opinion it got a little itchy. Si good work, I appreciate you good work - as I'm sure we all do, but you really need to improve some of the game engine on matchday, more realistic than it is, the news they're not that sorted + the game itself. I don't feel the one that should be telling you this because you're the pro's here, you'll know what's best, I'm just makin' some points that it sure will get 'FM' firing up again.

Thoughts?
I appreciate your thoughts but don't really get your point... Mate, you gotta understand the engine is totally different. What makes you think FM 2008 is less realistic? I mean, I just don't understand the logic... Leeds is Leeds, 2 wins, 3 draws and 5 defeats is a fair result, isn't it?
I think it just comes down to the fact that the tactical side was so much simpler in CM01/02.
All you needed to do was set your team instructions to attacking and short passing and you could pretty much be successful.
That's why I find the newer games a lot more realistic. The tactics are so much more in-depth and there are now so may more things to take into consideration than just the tactics themselves. I'll personally never go back to an older version but each to their own.
i think the point is that with a decent tactic and notmuch experementation in 01/02 you could get good results, which normally leads to more enjoyment. In FM08 its a lot harder to do the same withouht getting too in-depth, which the majority of people don't want.
The results compared to real life are irrevlevant.

I think you fail to see the point.
Which of the 2 games is more accuratekly portraying real life?
2 wins 3 draws and 5 defeats in Fm08?
Dont think so.....check the League One table mate.

I think that says it all really, comparing the game to real life is not how you decide can decide if it is realistic or not. The circumstances in the game are different than in real life and so you cannot expect things to go the same way.

Agreed in the simplicity of CM but you state that is why newer games are more realstic.
Well in this case it is not as CM 01-02 is portaying a much more realistic Leeds team than FM08 is.

Correct and both games are not EXACTLY like real life but the fact is that CM 01-02 is panning out to be much more than real life than FM08.
Heck even the Premiership in CM 01-02 it is Arsenal & Man Utd whilst in FM08 it is Newcastle and West Ham?????
