Well, there's your problem. Each version of FM requires slightly different tactics... in the old days, you could easily conquer all with one tactic, but these days you need much more tweaking and fiddling to achieve same levels of success. So of course the same tactic won't work with both games. That doesn't make one game better than the other, it just makes them different.
