And no I dont go to Leesd training sessions, bug their phones etc because the game is about "realism" not "real life" as a poster put it.

But I have applied the same standards to both games ie same tactics and same formation and the difference is staggering.

Personal insults will not win you my heart.

Your experiment is pointless and unfounded. You cant compare a game to real life.

Im an expert at Project Gotham Racing, doesnt mean I could drive an Enzo around Edinburgh and not die IRL.

The reason its easier to play in older games is because there are so many more factors taken into consideration in newer games.

Don't get personal, its the 'net. Go outside, get some air, count to ten etc etc.

I think there'd be a hell of a lot of compliants about SI if there hadn't been.

You cant use the same tactics, because the options are not the same.

Do you see where myself and others are coming from?

You can put the same players all you want, but the tactics wont be the same, cos FM08 takes more into consideration during the match than older versions.

Agreed. Yet I would expect that FM08 be more true to life than CM01-02 no?

I know that so you are saying that with the same formation but different options in Team Setup in each of the games means a team wins 4-0 and loses the same fixture 3-0 in the other game?

I dont believe the difference should be that great.

I really don't buy all this 'it was better back then' soundbite. You know, for years, I was guilty of this too. Not with FM, mind. With Spectrum games.

"Yeah, playability man. You didnt have the graphics, but the games are so addictive. Nowadays its all about graphics and cut scenes.....blah blah blah"

I went back to me old speccy, and believe me the games are rubbish in comparison. Yeah, ok, there are certain games - although dated - sill stand the test of time.

i.e. The Monkey Island games

But I dont see how a previous incarnation of CM/FM is better than the very latest one.

Considering so many people on this forum are so anal about detail and the like, I cant see how they can go back to a game thats years old.

Make me understand. Is it the flow of the previous version you play? Dont say 'no bugs' please, cause I dont buy that.

i can see what your getting at.

as part of your experiment why dont you run the season up to feb again on both genres, without you as manager of leeds and see the outcome. also play as leeds again on both and see if they are the same.

at least then you will have a few more results to either back up your claim or blast it out of the water.

There are so many more things in FM2008 that affect the outcome than tactics, so you are not comparing like for like.

Well when I play CM 01-02 it feels like I am in controk of the team and that my tactics actually make a difference whilst FM08 seems very random and I feel like I am not in control.

This makes CM 01-02, albeit very simple but fun. I love FM08 for the amount of options and detail and will probably start a great career game when the patch is out but I think you will find a lot of FM gamers who feel the same way.
